Help with film transport problem

I have a "new" Tower Type 3, which is a Nicca III, which is a very faithful copy of a Leica III something. The camera appears to be about mint. It is the same bottom loading as a Leica III. My problem is that when I wind beyond the first few frame, the resistance increases to the point that the sprocket holes on the film tear out. I have loaded bottom loaders enough to know how to do it, so I don't think that it is me. Another clue might be that both the cartridge and the take up spool are very tight -- much harder to pull out than my Zorki's or my Leica IIIc. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Does the rewind knob turn freely in the rewind direction (without a film cartridge in it). The shaft could either be dirt or gummed up, or it could be bent. Even a slight misalignment can add a lot of friction to the operation.

The rewind shaft can be disassembled fairly easily for cleaning.

Thanks Paul. You are correct. It seems to be the rewind. It had a lot of turning resistance. I cleaned and very lightly lubed it so that it turns with much less resistance. I loaded the camera and it seems to be okay. I'll run a roll through it to confirm. Thanks again.

I have the same camera. No trouble so far, but I can certainly disassemble and lube the rewind shaft. I haven't used the camera in years, but maybe now's the time.

It was the rewind. I ran a roll through it yesterday and it was fine. Thank you.
