Those Zeiss Ikon framelines are screaming digital to me. APS sized sensor with a converstion factor, 21mm equals @40mm.

Uh, check your math🙂

21mm on a APS sized sensor will look like a 31.5mm...

As sceptical I used to be about a 40mm lens so much a believer I am now. I was in serious doubt whether or not to get the 40/2 Rokkor for my CL. I gave in in the end when I could get one for 275 euro. It really is the best of both a 35mm wide angle and a 50mm normal lens. That Rokkor is really either and both at the same time.

If f1.4 is what you need, and a 40mm lens appeals to you, this could be very desireable lens. For me, I'm already very satisfied with my Rokkor, and I don't need f1.4. Besides, 50.000 yen ($450, or 400 euro?) goes a long way to the Epson R-D1 I'm saving up for.

Anyone else think that big cutout where the film rewind crank is makes the new cameras look much uglier than the original R and R2?

I think the problem is that this highlights the short RF baselength. It shows how the opportunity to move the VF to the edge of the camera, thus lengthening the baselength, has been lost.

The most important things in these cameras are the little things, for example, are there mechanical backup speeds, and how many, and if there is shutter speed info in the VF. Has the meter been changed?

So, I still do not know half the information that I need to decide where to put my long-saved money: R2, R3a, the Zeiss mystery, or something else?

This waiting is getting almost as bad as the rumors and leaks leading up to a MacExpo!
