Hexar AF filter thread problem?

I took delivery of my Hexar AF Thursday night (very impressed so far) and a B+W (106 ND 1.8 64x) 6 stop filter with 46mm filters threads. But the filter won't screw into the Hexar threads.

The filter works fine on my other lenses with 46mm threads, but neither this ND, nor my cheapo 46-52mm step up ring will thread into the Hexar.

Strangely, the threads look perfect to my eye, so I was wondering if there are known tolerance issues, or if some other factor is in play here. I've never run across an issue like this before.

Can anyone enlighten me, or provide suggestions?

Never heard of this.
I used my Hexar with Y2 filter quite a lot today and screwed and unscrewed the filter 5 times too. No problems. And this is a really cheap filter (or so it feels).

Yes. It's quite strange. At first I thought I had remembered the Hexar filter thread size incorrectly as I was ordering the filter. But it is indeed supposed to be 46mm, if my source is correct. But this filter looks like it is distinctly too large.

There weren't any Hexars made with like a 43mm filter thread, right?

I can't comment on historical Hexar threads, but mine uses 46mm filters - never the slightest problem.

Is it possible that there is a 46-43 step-down ring installed on your lens ???? That might be hard to notice if you're not looking for it.

Ugh. I figured out the problem. The Hexar has a very lightly dented hood and… yup. A very slightly dented filter thread.

It's really disappointing. KEH probably wouldn't have even noticed it, but if I look very carefully, it's clearly dented. Just enough to prevent a filter from threading in. Can't really fault KEH though, because I probably wouldn't have noticed it either, apart from trying to thread in a filter.

Ugh.

I'm going to be returning it, because this camera really really needs the ability to use ND filters. Rotten deal, because there's no telling when they'll have another Silver in stock. Anyway, thanks for the input.
