High ISO M9/E

Judging high ISO between cameras is difficult unless you shoot them in the same light/identical scene. I could probably make the M9 look cleaner at ISO 1600 than the D3, if I shot the M9 outside and the D3 in a closet.

Ain't it the truth. Here is my daughter at ISO 1600:

thanks, the m9 cdd is not as malleable as modern c-mos, but if you expose properly (not to the right nor to the left...) and pay attention to the WB, you can get usable shots even at 2500

having said that, I rarely need to push the camera over 800.

since you have gotten the M9, time to enjoy it. look ahead. most of the time u won't shoot more than iso 800, unless it's a super low light location 🙂

I sold my D700 to fund for my purchase of the M9P, no regrets. so far im enjoying my photos from the M9P. 😀

I notice many of the shots with banding or that are too noisy look like they had exposure brought up a stop or even more, which significantly make noise worse.

I've taken a few using 1600 and 2500 exposing properly and it's quite good actually, at least to my taste. also, usually when I bump exposure up I keep 1 stop as max but then adjust blacks, contrast and white balance so that the outcome is more pleasing to the eye.

I don't worry about shooting at ISO2500 on my M9. Most of my stuff is BW though. With my M8, the noise *level* didn't bother me at high ISO, but the *pattern* did.

Wow you guys are getting good results. Agree about needing the exposure and not raising it in LR too much. My Monochrom GAS is almost gone.
