Hmm. Voigtlander at Photokina

If Voigtlaender is to stir things up, it would have to be with a fantastic lens or a fantastic camera.

This would have to be with either a 21mm f/1.9 (Ultron?) in LTM (not M, Zeiss would be oh not so happy), or a digital Bessa rangefinder.

If it were to steal the show, it would most certainly be a digital rangefinder. It would be somewhat akin to Nixon going to China, though.

That would just be a re-badged RD1! It would need a bigger sensor, or a cheaper price to spoil the parade

Yeah, but nobody dares complain that the Epson camera is an Rx Cosina camera "$1500 overpriced" like some have said about the M8 compared to the M7.

Anyway, Mr. K. has said he wouldn't do digital, yet there's the Epson. So if it were under the Voigtlaender brand, that would be the sensation.

Now new products, lets think
Vented hood for the 50/f1.5
A range of lower contrast SC lenses
Improved all metal L with a switch-able 12-15-21 viewfinder.
Small fixed lens P&S 40/f1.4
A range of lens cases/keepers that will hold both the lens and its hood
A simple auto fan type side mounted flash
Clockwork motor-drive
Drop in 12mp sensor………………time for the medication………

How about a digital back based on the Voigtlaender Virtus D8, able to be retro fitted on any R based body, removable to allow for use of digital or film.

With a 1/1.8in. (5.6mm) sensor? Nice idea, I would be able to use a 19mm Elmarit-R lens for head shots, coz it would have the same FOV as a 90mm tele 😀

Cheers,

Abbazz

You know what I'd really love to see, all things aside? A sub-$400 M-mount mechanical rangefinder with a longer base length and coupled rangefinder/viewfinder with 25/35/50/75/90 frames. How's THAT for a request? 😀

RFF don't need no stinkin hints

RFF is a bright group

ok, well "golden hat" ended up in front of a Mexican army firing squad, so I guess he really DID need a stinking badge....😱

I vote for a coupled 25. how about the newest Bessa R2-3M without the lens [opposed to breaking the set to lower the price]

how about the 40 in silver

Man, I'm groping here. I've been surprised by Cosina every time.

-- More lenses in M mount, so we don't need screw-to-bayo adapters?
-- A body with a longer RF base, now that Zeiss Ikon has pointed the way?
-- A body that can accept an electric motor? Wait, I heard Mr. K doesn't like motors.
-- A body with enhanced metering, e.g. a spot meter covering a defined area?
-- A reflex housing, maybe one accepting Nikon F or other standard SLR mount lenses? (Not sure there'd be enough depth for this, but it's an idea.)

Or maybe it's time to revive the Contax and Nikon mounts, on the more recent upgraded bodies. Using your Contax-mount lenses on an auto-exposure camera would be an interesting notion, would it not?

Okay, now the one I'm really, really hoping for: a good, modern, true zoom accessory finder. Advances in acrylic optics have made it possible for even a cheesy point'n'shoot to have a bright, sharp-edged zoom finder; why not one as an accessory? I'd like to see one with a range of, say, 28 - 100mm, with parallax compensation, and a dial that would adapt it for standard 35mm, Leica M8 1.33x, or Epson R-D 1 1.53x coverages.

And as long as I'm dreaming, how about building in a "VC III" meter to offer through-the-finder, variable-angle spot metering? I'm not sure who'd buy such a thing (other than myself) but it's technically feasible...

On a completely different note, would CameraQuest be at Photokina? I wonder if, in principle, it would be possible to ask him beforehand to bring some things with him that one would like to buy from CameraQuest; that way we miserable Europeans could avoid subsidizing the US Postal Service with USD 40-something shipping fees.

How much are Cosina/Voigtländer and Zeiss going to compete at all? I mean it would be foolish for both to overdo it. Zeiss needs Cosina as a manufacturer, Cosina needs Zeiss as a partner and for prestige.

Where they are competing now? 35/1.7 Ultron vs. 35/2 Biogon? 50/1.5 Nokton vs. 50/1.5 Sonnar? But then the latter two are really quite different.

I don't think their lens lineup will overlap all that much. That's why I wonder where a supposed 24/2 or 24/1.x lens is supposed to fit in, in comparison with the 25/2.8 ZM... But then I don't know anything and just have to wait two weeks.
