I am seeing more electric scooters on the road. A locally made electric scooter has swappable batteries and is gaining in popularity: https://shop.vinfastauto.com/vn_vi/bike-klara-s.html
That is awesome. And I love the way the chassis is high for travelling “up and down sidewalks”. Necessary from what I’ve seen in Vietnam.
The Soco Ducati escooter here is over $5k.

Out to Lunch, on Flickr. The cyclo pousse was banned from the main roads many years ago and replaced by the 'Honda Om' or 'Honda Hug'
rider. The Honda Om's were later pushed out of the market by southeast Asian ride-hailing companies like Grab (Singapore), and Gojek (Indonesia).

I always enjoy coming to this thread. It is a very different Vietnam than I knew in 67-72. I think I would be a little lost. And of course I haven't spoken Vietnamese in about 45 years so essentially I don't speak it or understand it anymore.
Thanks for the photos. They are good and I always enjoy seeing them.

Well judging from the endless waves of covid that we suffer through , a lock down certainly wouldn't be dismissed by me . Many memories , thanks for the pics . Peter

Hi oftheherd, thanks for stopping by. When you left Saigon in 1972, Metro Saigon had a little over 2 million inhabitants. Today, the number is close to 9 million. This said I believe you'd be able to find your way around District 1 without too many problems. Perhaps try the free Duolingo app to polish your Vietnamese. Cheers, OtL
