the necks of plastic bottles make for cheap and sturdy shades too. there used to be a site that i cant find that showed how they were made step by step but i cant find it now, even the original site for this pic is gone now but it gives you an idea on how to go about it.
when painted flat black they can be nearly indistinguishable from a real hood at times (at least from a distance)

Old photo books suggest using brown paper tape -- the lick-and-stick variety -- rolled outwards in a spiral to form a cone, then painted black.

Since I have Series VI adapters for all my LTM lenses. I generally just use the Series VI hoods as I have about 5 types (long, short, flared). I also have about 30 different filters, so I carry what I think I will need and change from lens to lens.
