Can anyone tell me the proper Canon # for the hoods/ shade for these two LATE variant lenses and the depth/ length, excluding the mounting flange?

thanks,

Bill

i do not think there is an official hood for the 35/2. i use the 40mm metal hood sold by gandy at camerquest. i have one each for the 35/2 and the 35/1.8.

the 100/3.5 uses a clamp on canon hood that fits over a 34mm filter size.
i just bought one off ebay for 62 bucks and it's still in the mail. it's the only one i've ever seen.

Joe is correct!!! I have a cheap shallow Series VI Kodak hood with push on 42mm adaptor ring that I use on the 35/2 when I shoot it with a filter. Without a filter the front element is quite recessed, so much so that it doesn't need a hood?

Steve Gandy claims (http://www.cameraquest.com/crflen.htm) no hood for the 35/2. The lens does shade the glass very well.

If this is the BLACK 100/3.5, the correct hood is the T-42. I don't think I've ever seen one. I think I've only seen the lens offered once or twice.

For the more common black/chrome 100/3.5, the hood is black, quite skinny, labeled for the lens, and comes with a 34mm threaded Series VI adapter or a 36mm screw-clamp Series VI adapter. This hood reverses on the lens for storage, but the reverse 34mm cap to cover the threaded adapter is very rare. (I've only seen three of those caps, the third being the one I bought for $40.)

A Leica FIKUS adjustable hood might be a more cost-effective solution for the black/chrome 100/3.5. Certainly shows up much more often than the Canon hood.

Joe's right about the Gandy hood. I've tried several alternatives, surrendered to Joe/Gandy. IMO this is *almost*enough reason to consider the CV 35f2.5 ...however, by contrast to CV, the Canon is a gem.

A shade's important to the 35f2, just as it is to all lenses if one's after top performance (unless one lives in very flat lighting). Unfortunately the Gandy hood won't allow a filter due to lack of internal screw threads (the hood in the 25f4 accepts Leica 39mm filters that way, no vignetting).

I hate clamp-on hood arrangements...make me very nervou$. I'm $tuck with one on my Summaron because that's the only po$$ibility (no screw threads)...but I'm always afraid I'll loos$ this expen$ive and photographically very important acce$$ory.

buy extra hoods john.
i just sent payment off for my 4th hood for the 50.1.4, so now i will have 2 original canon hoods and 2 hoya 48mm screw ins.
i also have a small screw in for the 100/3.5 and the $62. hood for it should be here soon.

i too get nervous and some might say i 'overcompensate' ;)

i prefer the gandy hood, it's a bit smaller but still works just fine on a 35 and it's a screw on vs the clamp on. just feels more secure.

The Cameraquest web site is a little tough to dig through. On the For Sale page, scroll down the Left column. Under various click on Leica Rangefinder. Scroll down that page and you will find the generic metal hoods.

CV hood for 35/ 2

CV hood for 35/ 2

Before I put some $$$$ on Mr. Gandy for a 40.0 mm hood, are you sure it works OK?

There is NO vignetting (shadow) at all?
