How can I use my M8 and Visoflex on a 4x5 view camera?

I am interested in the technique where one can mount a digital camera on a
4x5 view camera body and move the camera around the frame taking numerous photos and stitching them together. Can the M8 do this with a Visoflex? I am asking this because the M8 is my only digital system and want to give it even more options and flexibility. What would I need for this? I have a Linhof Color 45.

In order to accomplish what you seek, you would have to have a way to register the location of the chip in the M8 very precisely, over a multitude of exposures. I think that a similar problem has been solved, but with a different focus, by the folks at Gigapan.

I would look at something like this instead:

It is a motorized camera mount which purports to turn even a small-sensor camera into a gigpixel image-maker. I have never used it, but it is a very cool idea. The M8 appears to be on their list for a product called the Epic100.

I know of a photographer who basically handholds shots with his M9, and stitches them together with great success. C.Rangefinder

Try Fotodiox - if any one makes the appropriate graflox plate it would be them. I had one for my Nikon to mount to my 4x5, but sold it to get a Phase One digital back adaptor.

The anwer, I fear, is 'with extreme difficulty'. The VERY deep flange-sensor distance of the Viso-M sandwich is an invitation to mechanical vignetting as soom as you are off the optical exis of the lens, even after allowing for the small size of the M8 sensor.

That's quite apart from the difficulty of making an X-Y sliding camera holder to the necessary degree of accuracy, which, frankly, I doubt is possible at an affordable price.

Third, there are few if any LF lenses that would give the sort of resolution that would make this worth-while, though of course the stitching would greatly lower the need for high resolution.
