Hi, everyone

How do I make a photo small enough to be uploaded as an avatar? I can't run ps on my computer, as it's too small. Thanks.

L: We used to have Picassa, but it started to give us bugs so we don't use it anymore.
DMR: Which sites would you reccomend?

Guess if your computer is too small for PS then it's to small for The GIMP either. I like IrfanView for quick image manipulations. It will scale your image resampling with quite a couple of filters to chose from. There is also a quick-shot sharpen to finish it of. Maybe that will do. BTW: IrfanView can plug in many PS-Plugins. For example I use it with the very neat virtualPhotographer.

All of this is free of course.

One of the only ways I've had success sizing for avatars is to scan at the required avatar size. As soon as I touch the image with PS it balloons in size, regardless of quality and sizing settings.

Funny this would come up today - as I struggled with this for the last 2 nights. I just couldn't get my file smaller than 20kb in PS - no matter what I did (even saving in low res JPEG and cropping the heck out of it!).

Then in deperation I remembered that MS Office suite includes a Picture Manager program. Not very user friendly but , lo and behold, it has a tool where you can shrink an image down to thumbnail for website size!

Took a while to figure how to save the result but once I did that - it was simple to upload a "right-sized" image/file!

If you have MS Office - you're there.

I've been wondering about this myself but I never thought of using MS Photo Editor before :bang:

I guess my PC at work is good for something after all. 😀
