EFKE is most likely prnounced like a German pronounciation as Croatia has many residents from German origin. It is like the letter "F" followed by a short "cke"

How good is Efke? I just tried Fortepan 400, and I didn't like it, at all. It had terrible grain. Looks like underexposed 3200 ASA film. Not only was the grain huge, but it also looked ugly. Definitely not for portraits. It may have some application if you're going after some gloomy, Eastern European mood, but other than that, no thanks...

Efke KB100 is great. And cheap.

Efke stands for the initials of _F_oto _K_emika.

I have been using Fomapan100 Classic processed in T Max 1 + 4 for 5 to 6 mins, found in to be really good, smooth minimal grain, and sharp.
I had the same experience with Fortepan 400 and 100 but I had processed them in Rodinal, which is not a finegrain developer, will have to try it in something else, possibly D76.

The foma films are very intense. Very contrasty, not too mid-tone rich - the opposite of Kodak Plus-X 125.

I use Fomapan 200 (Arista.edu Ultra 200) - and develop it in Arista premium (clayton F76+). Very nice street film. Not a good portrait film though.

best B&W portrait film, in my opinion : Neopan 400. Smooth.

Remy is right, Efke stands for the initials of FotoKemika. But Raid is wrong, because Croatia has not any resident from German origin. In Croatia, we pronounce and speak like we write.

i'm just thinking about oredering directly from Samobor a 30m can of efke (it cost 42$, and you can get from it about 18rolls of 36 exposures), but never tried that, how do you put film in cassette, and Dio do you maybe now where I can obtain reusable cassetts?

EFKE/ADOX films are excellent, the 25 is outstanding and the 100 is a conventional film with a real EI100
I like them both.

there is no such thing as contrasty or flat films... just the processing/exposure has not been fine tuned 🙂
