All my cameras are ladies and I am in love with all of them.
I could never love a man or an 'it' like that!

I suppose my previous post wasn't entirely accurate. My cameras may be gender neutral, but I may be guilty of thinking of them as more than tools.
A month ago I bought a leica IIIg, for no better reason than I've always wanted one. My IIIf and M3 are still perfectly fine cameras with no problems, but I always wanted one!
For the last few weeks I've been stocking up on film and supplies, waiting for the weather to warm up so I can go out and shoot with my new camera. It sits on my desk, so I can look at it when I should be studying.
I haven't started talking to it yet, but if the snow doesn't let up soon I just might.

Cameras are just tools.
I could not have said it better.
which means cameras are quite obviously male, despite earlier comments to the contrary

neutral doesn't exist in frnch
so it is "he"
otherwise I would call it "it" just tools, piece of metal

David, I had a Leica R4s years ago. Leicafying Minolta SLR's was an experiment that failed. It's been in a landfill for about twenty years now. Good riddance! A door stop would be a constant reminder of the wasted money.
Hi,
That was the point: a reminder of wasted money... And I might as well get some use out of it.
The trouble is, it was a nice camera and had a nice lump of glass on the front.

It's just "The Nikon" or the XA, or whatever.

I refer to them as my second, third or fourth wives.

Mostly I refer to all of mine the same way: "Where is that damn camera, now?"

I don't understand either the need to assign a gender to cameras, or give them cutsey names.
Mine are all Nikons, so I refer to the rangefinders as the SP, or the S3, and the SLRs as the F, the F2, or the FA, which seems to work quite well, and keeps anyone from getting confused.

I call mine Sweetpea, Petal and Honeypie. My wife is called "Oi," and my cameras are being cited in my upcoming divorce.
Honestly, I tend to work and photograph alone, my wife isn't interested in what cameras I have and so they don't even get referred to unless I'm using RFF - in which case it's M6 TTL, M6 Wetzlar or 'classic' and M8.
