Just a quick question for those who has this camera.
I just received a used R-D1s, but this one seems wired.
Does the shutter work the same as film bessas?
I mean, there are two shutter curtains, and one opens to expose the film (sensor), and the second one closes to end the exposure.
Mine does have the first curtain, but after I press the shutter, the second curtain does not close. Not sure if this is how the "digital" bessa works,,,
So after I shoot, turn off the camera, and then remove the lens, I can see the sensor, instead of the second shutter curtain. Then, when I wind it, the curtain comes down.
It this the way how it work? or something wrong?
Images that I am getting is not right either...

Doesn't sound right to me. You should never see the sensor unless you are in B mode and have the shutter pressed or a cable release with the button depressed. And if you are getting weird pictures, that is even more confirmation of this. By any chance are you getting way overexposed images, especially if you don't recock the shutter with the advance lever right away?

Yes, my pictures are way over exposed.

The first one is after I release, and turn off the camera. The second one is while I am cooking the shutter.
Apparently there is no second shutter curtain working.
And you can see the original image taken with this camera, where I managed to get reasonable exposure...

Something is wrong. That photo looks like it was taken through a screen door.

The shutter definitely looks broken. Are the lower shutter blades even present, or do they only show up when you recock the shutter mechanism?
I don't know what arrangement you made with the seller, but definitely try to return it and get your money back. Even if you were offered money to partially defray the cost of repair, I would still refuse it and demand a full refund because there is no guarantee that the shutter can be repaired. As experienced as Steve Choi is with the R-D1, the last time I spoke with him, I seem to remember him saying that he can't really get parts for the R-D1 from Epson. Apparently Espon only wants cameras sent back to them for repairs. You will understand why when there is a flat fee of $500.00 for repair. And they may end up sending you a refurbished replacement anyway, which may or may not be a bad thing, but from my experience it's hit or miss. (They attempted to repair my camera once, and then had to send me two different replacements before they got it right.)
Sorry, don't mean to jump the gun and paint such a grim picture, but just wanted to make it known that the shutter might not be a simple repair. If for some reason you are stuck with the camera, then Steve is the guy who is willing to take a look at the problem and attempt to fix it.

No, I have never seen the second curtain. So I am not sure if it is there not working, or if it is NOT there. But the seller says the camera was in perfect working condition, and I want to believe that.
