How many female leica m users here!:)

The reason I am a Leica owner is because of my wife.
She's a pro photog and I went with her to the original Ken Hansen many moons ago went she bought an M6 and a 35, 50 and 90.
They were a gift from her father.
One day she surprised me with a nice Leica CL with a working meter(!) that I used in our early years.
When we had our first child, I took out her M6 and became the family photographer.
She eventually realized it was hers and demanded it back.
This was in the the early days of ebay and I went online and bought my own but continued to use her lenses.
I had to surrender the 35cron, but she let me keep the 1960's 50 rigid cron.
I had it on my M8 yesterday (also a gift from my wife and two daughters for a big birthday) photographing my girls.
So, if it weren't for the women in my life, I would not have a Leica.

Well, what I understood here is that to be a professional photographer you have to do only(!) and mainly photography or at least more than any other art 😱
I hope I've understood it wrongly...
I disagree on that there are very little pro photographers women out there too.

Photography as an art is more forgiving than any (or almost any) other art. I mean you don't have to shoot the s&%$ out of your camera(s) everyday and to dedicate your entire life to it in order to make great pictures. This could be the reason that many people have different medium than photography and still ARE professional photographers (because they got payed for the photo work they do).

It won't be quite as few as visible here. Both gear hobbies and tech forums are male dominated - bragging about gear on forums essentially is male squared, and won't attract that many female photographers. The proportion of females among professionals is much higher - but they'll hang out elsewhere and may be talking pictures rather than gear.

Respectful question here: What do you mean by "too old"? The M2 and all incarnations of the M4 are of more recent manufacture than the M3. I'm not Leica expert, but it seems that the M3 has the best rep of those three types, and is generally more sought after. Many of them sold are in working condition, and not in need of a CLA (epecially if sold by one of the Leica repair-gods 🙂 ).

Just trying to understand where you were coming from about the "too old" comment. My Korona 8x20 is a lot older, and working fine. 😀

I agree. my M2 and M4 (and the MDa too) have been working perfectly from the day I bought them, only the M4 needed a simple CLA after 2-3 years (and after a couple of knocks here and there). M2s and M4s work just as fine as M3s. or other Ms. I've never seen an M2 with circuitry issues though.
you can buy defective specimens of any camera.

Re: Sevo's comment about tech forums being dominated by males. That is undoubtedly the case, with very few exceptions. One that stands out for me is Sophia in the CZ rifle section of rimfirecentral.com. You can't get much more technical than a gun forum and Sophia is the person you go to for help (obviously I have a CZ 22 calibre rifle).
 
The question, really, should be: How many female leica m users here who spend time on Internet forums. That accounts for the very small numbers. In my experience, women don't spend nearly as much time on forums like this as gear-oriented men. Women usually have better things to do, like shooting pictures. While we sit here arguing over which lens is best for shooting dolphins underwater at night.
 
wow, it has been a year since this thread started🙂 glad to know there are at least 38 female leica users here! haha. But now i wonder who are the other 37 females. hmm..
 
Well, I shoot a Leica M (my late dad's m3 -- he bought it to take pictures of *me* when I was born) and I'm female.

For fun I only use early 60's lenses on it. 🙂

I've been on tech forums (mostly computer-oriented) for over 10 years and before that some of the old Compuserve forums. I'm used to being one of very few women around, this is why I still use just my initials -- an old habit from when our threads or requests for help were not always treated so swell 🙄

Never a problem here!
