Always one at a time.
Most of the time I go out for a day, walking around the city with my camera. Ill bring my M6 if I want 35mm or my M3 if I want 50mm; nothing else. Ill use one of the two for maybe 3 months before I want a change and switch to the other.
I have never found myself wanting a different focal length in this situation. Its a liberating feeling to simplify. I think its just as important while traveling too, the set of photos from one or two lenses will most likely be more cohesive.

I only ever take one body out - I survived two months in Slovenia with just a 28, 50 and occasionally 135 (on my SLR as my RF had broken down), and I did very well with just a Canonet in Venice for a week. Simple is better - you can concentrate on getting the photos that you can get with that equipment.

Here in Slovakia, we have 3 fairly tale characters(literal translation): the Long (i.e. tall), the Wide (i.e. fat) and the Sharp-eyed. My kit is similar 🙂

If I am out and about not for the purpose of photography I would take one lens, either a 35mm or 50mm but a Minilux is good too. If I am doing street photography I would take a 28mm or a 35mm and also a 50mm with maybe two bodies. If I am shooting scenery I would have a 6x6 with three lenses - 40mm, 80mm, 150mm. On vacation with wife and kids - digital with zoom.

This summer I spent 5 weeks in Boston. Had a IIIf & CL, 21, 35, 40, 50, 90 & 135 lens and plenty of slide film and B&W.
For walking around usually one, maybe two. Any more and it becomes a hassle. Fixed-lens cameras are a good alternative.

I used to travel with a 5-lens (21-35-50-90-135) outfit and my M6 TTL and M3 bodies. I have now downsized to just the M6 TTL 0.72 body and a 35mm Summicron ASPH lens. I have to admit that this simple and light outfit is very liberating in a way! I don't even need a camera bag. I just stuff a few rolls of film in my pocket and head outdoor with the Leica hanging from my neck. No decisions to make about which body/lens/film to use. Just point and shoot! Well, almost point and shoot!

In my recent (last week) interstate trip lasting a week, I brought along my 28, 35, 50 and 90mm lenses. I ended up using the 35mm 80% of the time, and the 50mm for the remainder of the shots.

Day-to-day I only have the room for a single body and lens, so I've settled on a 35/2 with 0.7M closest focus as my daily.

It depends on my mood and the assignment. If I am travelling light, it will be my M5 with the CV Nokton 50mm f1.5 or the Bessa T with the CV Collapsible Heliar 50mm f3.5 and a handful of film, probably Efke KB25.
For most assignments, I carry the M5 with CV Ultron 28/2, Nokton 50/1.5 and Jupiter-9. If I am specifically doing fashion or portraits, I will carry the Nokton 50/1.5, Color-Skopar 50/2.5, Jupiter-3, Jupiter-9, and the CV APO-Lanthar 90/3.5.

If I am on a walking tour of a new city, I will carry a Leica M6 or M7 with 21, 28, and 40mm lenses. I will sometimes add a small, lightweight 75mm. If hiking through an area where I want to shoot landscapes, I have carried 24 (or 21), 28, 35, 50, and 90. If shooting close to the car, I will have an R5 or R6 with 24, 28, 35, 50, 90, 135, and 180; and probably the 60mm Macro. I may have the 35-70 zoom, which has a macro range, in place of the 35 50, and 60.
I may also have along a Nikon body with a PC lens; a fisheye; or a longer telephoto..

I usually carry two lenses, 35 & a 50. If I use my 25 I'll cary along the Bessa L. It's so light I hardly know I have it. All I need to figure out is which 50 to bring along.

On my recent trip to Malta, I just took 35 and 50 and a Jupiter 85 f2 that I'd just bought for a 'song' (MINT). That Jupiter was a revelation!!...I could not believe the IQ I got on Velvia 100.

Dave, I hope you got some good shots in Malta! I was there last April, using just 28 Summicron and 35 Biogon on the M8. I just made a pick for each day's outing and left the other lens behind. Changing lenses exposes the sensor to dust, etc...
Heading off to Hawaii soon, and in accord with my earlier vote of 1 lens, I'll have only the 24mm f/2.0 SMCP-FA* AL IF on my Pentax K100D... plus the usual little Canon ELPH APS film camera in a belt pouch with its fixed 26mm f/2.8 lens.
