Typically a Bessa R w/ 35/1.7 Ulton.
I have recently acquired a 25/4 Skopar, getting used to it is a problem, but with practice...
Small cheap auto flash, bought used for $5-$10.
In a Domke F-5X bag, extra batteries, Ultrapod (~2 oz.) and that's it - oh, yeah and film, lots of FILM!

Two.
I usually have the CV Nokton 40/1.4 or the Summicron 50/2 attached onto the body and bring along the CV Heliar 15mm for wides. Everything fits in my shoulder bag.

25-50-90 is a classic choice for a trip. When carefully chosen, this could be a minimal and light set.
CV 25/4----any 50/2---Elmar 90/4 or Steinheil 85/2.8

This has gotten to be a tough one for me. If I take my M3, it's the 50 'cron. If I want to take a 35, it's the Contax IIIa with a w-Nikkor 35/2.5. I think I'll get a 35 for the Leica so I can have both lenses with just one camera. Anyone who'd like to swap around for a 35 Summaron 35/2.8 w/goggles? Maybe I could part with my DR. Maybe swap my w-Nikkor for a goggled Summicron? Anybody?

For me being able to change lenses on a camera is like being able to change tires on a car.
You can choose what you want - and then that's what you've got.
I wouldn't change tires every few minutes, and I'm not going to change lenses every two minutes.
I decide what is needed and stick with it.

Hi Vic,
So one possible swap is your W-Nikkor 35mm/2.5 in Contax/Nikon mount for a Summicron 35mm/2.0 in M mount with goggles? There is a price difference of about $400-$600 here.

If I'm going to a sports events, then it's likely I'll take my SLR, with a 50 and a 70-200 zoom. (Yes, sacrilege around here!
)
Just had a fun wander around the city with just the 50 on my ME, and the Olympus XA in my pocket if I wanted something wider.
So either way, 2 lenses.
Cheers,
Steve

for a general purpose day trip one on the camera (35 mm) and one in the pocket (50 mm or 75mm) : if I plan to do something serious, important or an event which will be not repeated the three mentioned + my 12.

John, you would pack this kit for a trip to say, St Petersburg? Or carry it all while trotting along a local footpath?Voigtländer Bessa R2 28mm Ultron +15mm Heliar.

Not really a hierarchy Doug, would probably depend on whim!!
For a day trip or a couple of days I have a small Billingham Hadley bag, and would take just one of thse outfits.
A trip to Leningrad, (I'm too old to change!!) would be a Loepro small rucksac I have, with two cameras and about 4 lenses, although when I went to Prague a couple of years ago, I took this and ended up shooting everything with just one camera and two lenses.
In my younger days I had a large Billingham bag with everything bar the kithen sink in it, and now have a dodgy rheumatical shoulder and a bad back to prove it!!
Less is more as they say.
On holiday I watch these guys lugging a great bag of stuff around, multiple cameras around the neck, looking like Mr T from the A team, getting in everyone elses way, and think "mug" !!

I don't like schlepping bags... Last time I overdid it was a walking exploration of Old San Juan Puerto Rico. I had two Contax G2, one with 28, the other with 45, and a 90 in reserve. Couldn't think of a better way to keep the cameras protected from impacts. That bag got heavier and heavier, leading to switching the strap between shoulders. It was convenient having quick access to a different focal length like that but I ended the afternoon with two sore shoulders. The bag itself has weight... I believe I'd have been ahead with even a Pentax 67II with a normal or wider lens, a few rolls of film in one pocket and the exposed rolls stuffed in a different pocket, and forget the bag. The next trip I just carried one camera and one lens on each outing... a step forward!

I took a Minox GT plus a Rolleiflex 2.8D as my only cameras on a one month trip to Europe. It worked beautifully. It showed me that little can be big. It just took a little more time to compose images carefully with the "normal" perspective only.

For my next 12-day vacation to the Gold Coast, it'll be 2 for me - 28mm Ultron and 50mm Summicron along with my M6... We'll see how that goes.

Historically, I've usually gone out with one lens on the camera, and one in my pocket. However, I'm finding more and more lately that whichever lens is in my pocket stays there, so I'm starting to stick with one lens for the day.
I think it's more fun to think "How can I make this work with what I've got?" than "Which lens should I use for this shot?" anyway.
That said, if it's something big, or important, then I'll bring a few more pieces of kit along, but again I find that they tend to sit in the car or the bag.

Currently I am doing a 35 + 75 but I find I never use the 75. Somebody suggested leaving the house with the 75 on and I am trying that today.
35 is my Biogon, 75 is the Heliar.

usually only 50 Summicron Rigid but I recently bring more out 35mm because my new bag is so small rigid does not fit :-(
I do not think it is good idea to change the lens btw shooting.

Depends. If I'm travelling overseas: One, from now on. I've just returned from Thailand where I took my Elmar 3.5/50, VC 35/1.7, VC 15 + Pentax *istDL and its Zoom. I ended up taking 90% of my photos on the Elmar mounted onto my Hexar RF (the Elmar can't be beat for compact slide-into-the-back-of-the-seat-retractibility). This has been my first travel / journey with a baby (4 months). What with 6 and a bit kilos of bub, my share of the carrying, nappy bags, the odd hangover and reasonably sticky conditions ... One lens was more than enough gear! I ended up just carrying the Hexar and the 50 and was done with it.
