How many M cameras get used infrequently?

once a month

a few times every other month

a couple times a year

once a year or less

Why don't you sell them and buy a lens or scanner or some other
photographic item instead of letting your camera depreciate?

I've got an M5 that gets used infrequently. As the only M I own with a self timer it has a unique feature that keeps it in the kit. I do use it from time to time for a few rolls in a row, self-timer or not, and it is good as a 'freshener' of sorts, different enough to rouse me from my same old approach.

My M6 gets used the most - it goes practically everywhere with me. My M3 gets used a lot less since I bought the M6 a couple of years back. My IIIG sits on the shelf, but thats because I'm saving for a CLA that it needs...

I love different framelines on each of my three VF/RF cameras:
75 is heaven on the Bessa 3
21/25/28 are untouchable on the Bessa 4
35/50 are magic on the ZI
while the T is for use in the outback
I love 'em all
I won't part with the ZI and the T, for sure.

My three M's get about equal use, the CL I take places where I don't want to look like a photographer, and my Bessa L is almost always glued to the 15mm Heliar. Right now I have the 21 S.A. on the M3 and the two M2's have 35 and 50mm Summicrons. There's a 400 on the Visoflex but no camera on the other end. The CL is loaded with Tri-X, the others currently have Double-X 5222.

My M6 bodies started getting less use once I got a Hexar RF. And now with digital I hardly use the M6 at all... though of course I use the M lenses all the time.

Can't imagine *selling* it though.

(Actually, I did sell one M6. But gotta keep at least one)

My CL is pretty much always loaded with Neopan 400 and is my constant companion. Although I recently tested a roll of Ektar 100 in it because it has the best meter.
My M6 usually has Neopan 1600 or 400 in it and is ready for special missions.
My M4 is typically set up with color slide film for weekend trips, holidays and occasions.
The only machines I use a couple of times a year are the Nikons F100 and D70, the Rolleiflex (want to use it more but can't seem to find worthy subjects) and the Stylus Epic.
The waterproof Pentax sees a lot of action and the LC1 used to but now the CL has taken its place.

After 45 years I still have my M2, my first Leica, and it has appreciated in value from what I paid for it then! With the discovery of how nice the 50mm is on the M2, I'm using it more than before, and there's no thought of selling. I do use the CLE and ZI more often, and the M8 is kept busy.

This is my original M4P and a 5 lens kit. 21mm cv, 25mm zeiss, 35mm summicron, 50mm Hexar and 90mm elmarit. I am keeping my eye out for an affordable digital alternative to the M8 maybe the u4/3 cameras. When something digital comes up since I only have one RF camera I will keep it for B&W shooting.

My Leica gets used regularly. I'm not really into keeping cameras around as shelf queens. The only cameras I don't use that much that I haven't sold are the ones that aren't worth selling (e.g. a Lomo LC-A on its last leg and a Polaroid).

If the question is how many Leicas in existence get used infrequently (less than once a month), I would say the vast majority of them.

I have 2 M-bodies and I rotate them. Usually I use just B&W or just color negatives for a month or two (until I get bored and I change again between color/b&w). When I go out / start taking pictures, I usually take with me the body with bigger number in the frame counter. That is because, I want to finish the roll quickly 🙂

Xpan is now sitting in the closet...it's too dark to take pictures with it...
