I bought mine secondhand in bargain condition from KEH just over a year ago - no winder problems yet. Mine is the older version with the AE symbols on the shutter speed dial.
According to the Swiss Mamiya distributor, any problem is likely to have been caused by professionals trying to work very fast and winding quickly, thus stressing the mechanism.
I had a Mamiya 6 that developed a severe advance lever problem that got progressively worse. In the end the lever just swung back and forth totally disengaged from anything. It appeared to be a big complicated problem. Instead, having nothing better to do I pryed off the rubberized circle that is on top of the lever and found underneath a very straightforward screw that tightened the whole thing right up again. Taking off that rubberized circle and seeing what's underneath might solve other problems too. Who knows.
My winder and circuit board went after about 100 rolls of infrequent use. Nothing like a 400.00 repair bill. I think I was the last to get it done through Mamiya, about 6 months later they stopped doing "6" repairs.
