How many of us are out there?

I think one day full frame will go by the way side. With my E5 I have made huge prints, 18x48 panos and 20x36 with stunning detail. My E5 is far from the best DSLR on the market when compared other DSLRs. My NEX3 is very close to the same IQ.
So I ask, just how much IQ do you need? Are you really wanting better IQ or just the ability to use your Leica lenses without a crop factor and a finder?
I think full frame for better IQ is over rated.
Don't get me wrong I would love to have a M9. But I am closing in on having more than enough IQ than I will ever need for what I do.

I just don't see the attraction of a digital sensor compared to 35mm film. I cannot see myself buying a full-frame digital anymore than I can see myself buying a schoolbus for a daily driver.

Dear Roger,

if I remember right, you also didn't think Leica could make a FF DRF, a couple of years back :)

That being said, I might start using digital when Fuji comes out with an X200 (whatever the name, hybrid viewfinder, interchangeable lenses optimized for sensor, whatever format they pick, less than US 1500).

And then I'll buy two. Never will I get a camera for serious application in single copy. That's what really holds me back on the M9: buying two feels excessive. :)

Roland.

Dear Roland,

No, you don't remember right.

Leica always said that full-frame was their intention, and that it was a matter of time.

In other words, there was a time when they couldn't make one, and then, when they could, they did.

Cheers,

R.

Well you know folks, we might be surprised. Case in point: Didn't Leica make an announcement that at Photokina 2012 they would present a new platform probably closer to the mirrorless cameras we are seeing these days. But I can still dream.

Well, yes, but it's not going to be a digital rangefinder, is it? The clue lies in the word 'rangefinder'.

Cheers,

R.

If history is anything to go by, it's called a Panasonic G-3.

High-ISO performance, convenience, a better fit with a digital workflow, the possibility of going beyond a mere mechanical triangulating rangefinder mechanism, a greater freedom in how the body is laid out, ...

Ah, an E5 user in our midst.
Good for you.
My only complain about E5 is that it's not full-frame :D
