I'm starting to get serious about finding a user M3 to dedicate to my 40 Cron and 90 Elmar-C. I've identified exactly what I'm looking for:
* Double stroke
* International shutter speeds (I've used the older progression, and it drives me nuts!)
* Metal pressure plate
From reading, I think I'm looking for a serial number in the range of 854,001 to 915,250.
EBay prices are all over the board, but it looks like I should be able to find a user like this in the $400 to $450 range unless it's been recently overhauled if I'm patient and a little lucky.
Sound about right?

I paid about 600 for mine, and then another 250 in repairs. My camera is not mint, but I would say VG+. I think I'm into it for a reasonable amount. Stu

you should find an M3 of that vintage for $450 to $ 550, with good curtains, an rf that has not faded alot and no de-cementing.
it is cheaper in the long run to pay a little more and get one that is in good nick, than a beater with a list of problems.

I'm hoping on finding a body in decent shape, but do plan to send it off to DAG for an immediate CLA.

Bought one recently from KEH, listed as bgn for $450. Serial > 1,050,000.
As always, KEH understated dramatically. It is smooth, totally intact. Exposed one roll for testing with same exposure as my MP. Everything is right one. Had anticipated a CLA, but it does not need one. Two small scratches on the bottom plate that I can only detect from close range. Vulcanite, finder, etc totally intact.
Looks exc+ to me
.
KEH dropped most of their M3 body prices.

Well, this is going to have to wait after all. I just found something I've been considering for a good price - a M Motor for my M6. I've been having problems with my Rapidwinder due to arthritis and how I have to hold my hand.
