€350 is the price of admission to becoming a real artist..

If you buy it for €15, you're no artist. Hell, you won't even be a proper photographer.. you'd be just a cheapskate..

LOMO does not produce cameras for a while now, LC-As for Lomographs come from the old stock.

Only snobs and old-fashioned people what the real deal.
It's a sign of being avant-garde if you use expensive, crap replicas of the real deal.
Warhol made a huge business out of it. Now Lomography is doing the same thing.

During my recent visit to the Eastman Museum, the only cameras they had for sale were lomo's. I noticed the 4 and 8 lens cameras, the panoramic (not a bad camera), holgas, underwater, and fish eye. They also have a childrens room where the kids do projects like polaroid transfers. Kinda funny, most of the cameras and things they displayed were not Kodaks at all!!

Another good reason is that usually lomographers go trough a lot of film, helping keeping film alive.


Psss don't tell anyone but I have an Holga, a polaroid Holga, a pinhole Holga, a Diana, a Smena Symbol, 2 Lubitels and a Super sampler.

Yeah, but people were breaking the rules of 'real' photography long before the Lomographic Society ever existed. Their motto has been the motto of a lot of photographers since the early days of photography. Taking that and trying to make a huge profit off of it by selling cheap Soviet and other cameras (some of which *are* quite good) for twice as much as everyone else just because they're the official "Society" just goes to show that they aren't really out there to change photographic art in any way. The only reason the Lomographic Society even exists is to make a quick buck from naive artists who will believe all the rubbish they put on that site.

Breaking the rules of photography is one thing. Pretty much saying that you have to have a certain camera to do it is just them showing their true colors.

It's called American Capitalism. People in the US like to buy overpriced sh*t...like the $20 eyecup for my 10D, or the $15 bottle of water at a rock concert...or Ipods, or cell phones that get replaced after a year, or plastic cups...

Yes, I am an American. Yes, I love my country. It doesn't mean I have to like paying lots of money for cheap plastic crap, contraty to popular opinion.

The gear might be overpriced (I'm more opposed to the profit margin of the dslr society of which I still, in a contraditory fashion, wish to become a member) but I really enjoy the galleries. It's a great place to examine the wonderful joys of everexposure of color negs and xpro.

However, I did notice that they offer a 2 year warranty with their lomo automat (200 bucks). I figure if a 'naive' artist used the livin' heck out of one of these for two years (600 rolls?), it might work out in the end, considering how easily these things break.

I'd still like to play around with one.

It's nice that at least they are still trying to keep film alive, but still, keeping it alive at six hundred dollars for a range finder that is worth maybe fifty at the most is a little crazy. One could almost set themself up with a used bessa r and a russian made lens for nearly the same price and have a much better camera probably. It just doesn't seem to make much sense I guess.
