Just bought a second hand Epson 3200 Perfection Photo which turnt out to be DOA because of a very poor packaging and a dumb she-seller who didn't lock the scanner mechanism before shipping (of course I had explicitely told her to, including a photo of the locking nut taken off the scanner user's manual... :bang:).

Now the scanning rail under the glass moves freely when the scanner is lifted from an angle (even when I try to lock the nut), I can hear some screws rattling inside, and when I try to use it VueScan recognizes it but the LED in front of the scanner flashes red instead of blinking green and the scanner doesn't operate, of course.

Bought it off a kind of Craigslist site and didn't use PayPal to pay so chances are, that my requests for a refund will suck 100%.

The money involved was $40 plus shipping so no big deal apart from thinking loud about all those dumb people out there unable to do things properly even when they are very well told to, and expressing some regrets to see such a good flatbed having been ruined so easily.

Any tips/hints for a DIY repair including an exploded view of the machine out there ?

Merry Xmas to all BTW. ;)

EDIT : found it : http://www.betterscanning.com/scanning/dismantling.html

Hmmm. Not so easy it seems (many clipsed parts likely to break on dismantling...).

Go ahead and try to open it. It isn't that delicate. Maybe you will get lucky and one of the pulleys that works with the drive belt just needs to be put back on its shaft.
