How To Make Your Own Darkroom?

I built this workbench.

and put it in the basement next to the utility sink. The dry side is on the left, my trays are on the right and all my chemistry trays film etc is stored neatly underneath. In terms of light control, I cover the one basement window with the black bag the 8x10 paper came with. For extra light control, I hang a 10yrd sheet of black fabric from the joists with spring clamps.

This won't help ifyou want to PRINT in the middle of the day (or load film without a changing bag) but it will get you started. I've made contacts under the kitchen table in the middle of the night when I was living in an apt. I tend wait until the kids are asleep to do my developing. Once they get older then I might build something more permanent.

When I made the sink I incorporated a nice soft and wide ledge to rest my arms on while I rocked the trays. I'm tall and hate to bend over while working and this setup ensured I enjoyed working and didn't loose energy due to bad posture.
