I have a v3 summicron too, I highly recommend it as well.

Many have paint chips on the black body and its very common, dont worry about it too much. I wrote a little blurb about it a while ago here http://rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58642 Mine was about 800 dollars also.

Having owned all, the 35mm Summicron-M IV, 35mm Summaron-M 3.5, 35mm Summaron-M 2.8, 35mm Color-Skopar 2.5 PII, and 40mm Summicron-C 2.0 I would get the 40mm Summicron-C 🙂 That lens cost 1/3 of the 35mm Summicron-M IV is better build and an equivalent performer.

Just my 0.02 cent of course.

Gabor is correct about the 40 c cron's rendering. Awesome lens in terms of performance, size, weight and handling; but I can't back his suggestion unless you are happy estimating the framing from the 50 or 35 lines in your r2a or are willing to use an auxiliary vf, which also will add bulk to your r2a form-factor 😉 If you had a r3* with the 40 lines, this would be a great way to go.

I came across one on ebay last night at $1,000. So it could actually be had for $800, if you used the LIVE shopping discount.

MS cashback still works on this one (250336992528, a few minutes ago US 200). I got cash-back from a seller in Thailand last week. Not sure anymore what the respective rules are.

At 97.6% positive feedback I would be careful with this seller, though.

I have the grandfather of this lens, the Nikkor 35/1.8 and have had several Hexar AFs. It's a great performer, IMO. But in LTM 1m min. focus distance which would bother me.

BTW, if you want a more classic look, you can surely find the Nikkor 35/1.8 in LTM below US 1000, too.

I know, too many choices ....

i would buy either the biogon or the m-hexanon (one on ebay: 180300759580). both of them surpass the summicron v3.

Thanks for the advice. I have decided to go with my first instinct and buy a 35mm f/2 Biogon.
