HU Black M5

I wouldnt buy an early 2 lug version for that price, IMHO...
a later 3 lug would be the way to go for the money.

I just had the guts of my early m5 replaced...the later versions had better parts.

my 2 cents.

That's a very late serial #. All internal improvements had been made by Leica from what I know about the M5. Surprised it's only 2 lug but maybe this was just prior to the addition of the 3rd lug. The late sr#, cosmetics and camera bag make it tempting especially if your in Canada.

Note that the determining factor for Sherry Krauter as to whether or not she considers an M5 to be in the better group of M5s is the serial number. I spoke to her recently about it. Those that start with 134xxxx or higher are "strong cameras" in her opinion. There are 2 lug versions that fall into this category (i.e., 134xxxx and higher). And, if you see one with 3 lugs, the third might have been added.

I always wondered what she considered her point for when the camera became more "refined"...
Thanks for the info.

Still seems a bit high priced and if not, I feel better about my M5 purchase.

The price is in Canadian Loonies & Twonies, if that matters.

The M5 in NYC seems like a very good deal. If it's as described.

The M5 originally posted is a later serial number with all of the "upgraded/better" parts.

The cosmetics of that camera make the price a very good deal.

Interesting; got a source for that statement?

Some people are under the mis-guided notion that the shutter drum of early M5's are weak and cannot stand up to use. This is hogwash. Just look at the number of early M5's still being used..

The only real weak point in the early M5's was the weak shutter speed dial click stops spring. Later ones went to a stronger spring which made changing shutter speeds a bit more stiff thus preventing accidental shutter speed changes.
