No one sniped it.

Doug, is that a rare lens? I thought a 35mm Zeiss lens would be a Distagon instead of a Planar.

It's a bit over my budget - I'm just short of 875$ 😉
RJBender: 35mm designs by Zeiss are generally the Planar, Orthometar or Biogon, Distagon is usually for ultrawide angles 🙂 (of course i've no such expensive lenses)

Prices are up. But not that much. Now a 21/4.5 will command that price. Or a Nikkor 35/1.8 in mint. But a 35/3.5? I can't see it.

whoa RJBender, nice piece of glass!! It's the first time I see such a distagon... but it's true that Zeiss manufactures wide-angles under the name of Distagon for their SLR/MedFormat lines 🙂 They even made some Flekton lenses I think, in the times of Zeiss Jena.

Pacific Rim has a very nice one with metal lens cap and bag for $795 right now.

You mean the 4 1/4 Biotar maybe? Biometar is a Zeiss Jena DDR lens design (80mm and 120mm) for the pentacon six 🙂 I should send mine to pentacon next monday
No, I have a 35/2.8 Biometar in hand at the moment. It is not a widely known lens, but one that Zeiss did make. These are Zeiss 35's from left to right:

Post war 35/2.8 Biogon
35/3.5 Planar
35/4.5 Orthometar
35/2.8 Biometar
Pre war 35/2.8 Biogon (chromed brass version, most are aluminum barrels)

Ack! NO! Now that you're back to the M's I've got a chance at finding a Canon 35 I can afford...

What?

One of the most desirable lenses for the Contax, at least from a collectors standpoint is the 75/1.5 Biotar. it was brought to the market at an inopportune time, as the war was really heating up in 1940. A small batch were built for the Contax that year, estimated at 100 units. Production was resumed in East Germany after the war, most likely all in aluminum barrel. The design was also then produced more widely in Exakta and 42mm thread mounts. Production of the postwar version is 800 lenses in Contax mount.

Wow! That's a rare lens. I've only seen them for Exaktas.
