FOUND!!!!

In the Tavern in the navy blue sock!!! They new I was the rightful owner when I was even able to describe the sock.

They are mailing it back to me today.

I'm smiling again.

Sorry guys, I am keeping the Bessa, the Hassy and all my other toys.

Congrats Rover!!!! :O)

Good on ya! Now, you tie that sock to your wrist with a cord going through your sleeves...well, it used to work with my mittens when I was five...my mom did it to me.

Best Regards,

Bill Mattocks

I have a Bessa L glued to my 25/4(not really), but at $75 it might be a good idea? 🙂

I actually gave the loss some thought and was prepared to move on without the viewfinder if necessary.

The 21mm field of view is pretty darn wide. More or less everything that your eyes see. So, I figured why not just use my eyes.

I messed around and tooled a mount I could hold in my nose that will slide into the hotshoe of the camera. This would anchor my eyes in a consistent place above the camera. Then I hung a bent coat hanger from the bill of a baseball cap, painted white of course, to serve as bright lines. I may have gotten a few strange looks, but, when the need is there, the mother of invention rolls on.

I am glad the viewfinder is on its way home.

This reminds me I have a 21mm finder, but no 21mm lens. I bought this Zeiss finder 30-35 years ago to carry around and peer at the world, to discover how badly I "needed" the matching lens. Of course at that time there was just the expensive Super Angulon to fit my Leica M2, and I never bought one.

I expect this finder was made for use with the Biogon on a Contax II or III. There are threads around the eyepiece, as if there's something missing there, like a piece of trim or an eyecup attachment.

Anyone know about these?

Rover, sorry I didn't keep up on this thread more. What wonderful news. It's nice to know there are really nice people in places other than this forum.

Well, the viewfinder is home and bliss has returned to my household. Thank you for your support during my troubles.

I have got the first batch of photos back too. I am very happy with the results. I have to practice more with this wide of a lens, but it performs just as I assumed it would. I will hopefully get a chance to scan some images in the next few days and I will provide a non technical review of this lens. If you are thinking of getting one, I will give two words of advise, GET IT. A big thumbs up from me.

More will follow.

home sweet home!
i'm looking forward to your thoughts on this lens.

i have to admit that going to a wide angle lens would be last on my list of purchase priorities but i like the look of wide angle shots. i just don't seem to be able to use them that well.

i wonder if anyone here has either of the 28s from cv. i'd like to hear about them (or did we do that already?)

joe

I have the 25 and the 28/3.5, Joe, and they're both excellent, though this 28 is built very very well. I've never had the pleasure of the 28/1.9, but I've been tempted. But it's enough larger than the 28 Summicron, which is so much more expensive, that just thinking about it was frustrating!

Here's a 28/3.5 shot on my CLE, though it's hard to see enough to judge online. And this was a long-expired roll of Kodacolor 1000, so it has a faded grainy look. Not the best test...

I have the CV 21/4 (black finish) and viewfinder as well and it's a peach. I'm considering selling mine though because I'm not a very good wide-angle shooter and I find 21mm too wide for my skills. Or I could be temped to trade up to a 35/1.7 Ultron (in black). My 21/4 includes square shade, leather case and brightline finder.

If anyone's interested, send me a PM.

I find my self very often being very close to my subject, the dad of a 4 year old has to be, the 21 answers a need for me. My perspective is that it sees what I do. Shooting this wide Gene I would say works best when you take a couple steps forward, so much so that you feel you are part of the image.

Thanks for the tip, Rover. I bought this lens to challenge myself with, and it has certainly done its job 🙂 I tend towards telephoto (love the 90-100mm range) so this is WA 'therapy' for me.

I'm sure I just need to keep working at it... It sure is a sweet little lens though, isn't it?

gene, i'm curious as to why you would want the 35/1.7?
that 40 is a nice lens.
is it just the speed difference, would you keep both?

i'd love to make an offer on the 21 (just to have it to play with) but finances are tight, as usual.

Joe, I'm thinking of adding a second body somewhere in the next while and if I do it'll most likely be an CV R2 or R3 (or whatever it gets called). My main lens for it would be 35mm. That's the only WA lens I don't find uncomfortably wide ...
