And last week I managed to persuade a well-know London second hand dealer to split an RF20 flash that they had as part of a kit (mint, boxed) for £50, which seemed quite reasonable, given how overpriced they were new. (I'm not telling how much I paid for my 100mm!)

thanks for your kind consideration, Robert.

My youngest son, who will turn 7 this week, is very interested in photography. He shoots a Zeiss Tengor that produces 6x9 negs as well as a 35mm p&s and a digicam (he has a low yield rate so digital saves $$$). He also bought his own tripod out of his allowance savings. But I'm sure that my older son, who is 9.5, will become interested if he thinks that little brother might get something that he doesn't get. Perhaps I should buy a backup system complete with 100mm lens!

Right. Well, I've got another in my sights, which I will most certainly lose to some sniper with bucketloads of cash. But I won't go down without a fight.

Bummer.
My lens from them was delivered yesterday. They rated the lens, a Caltar 135/5.6, as "Excellent condition" but it was perfect. I can't find any flaws. I held it up to a 100-watt bulb and there's not even a hint of dust inside the lens. At the very least, I've never been crossed by their rating system.
Are we looking at the same auction? 5 hours left, 19 bids - I think you can bag this one.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I'll keep my eyes open in Australia for one for you....They're undervalued here - I mentioned the mint, used once 100mm lens that sold for $US350 2 weeks ago...

yeah, went for $849.
I may want it bad, but not that bad. Not so bad I'd have to sell my car.

yes, I called a shop down your way and they told me they were sorry, they had not removed the add yet from their site, but the lens had been sold 4 days earlier.
I never would have thought a lens could be such a pain. I mean, Leica glass goes for more. . . but this lens seems many many times as valuable in terms of rarity. It still blows my mind that KEH sold that lens for $415 when they EASILY go for nearly a thousand bucks on Ebay.
I mean, what, 30+ bids up to $849? That's an easy sale at $800.

Now, I did buy one - for a bit more than the KEH specimen, but new instead of used, according to the guy. With the box and papers. From a little store in London. And I am preparing to reward a kind member for their assistance.
The thing should arrive tomorrow or so, given that it was sent Express Air from London on Saturday, and last time I had that done, it spent less than two days in post.
