I can be like Raid now! (Just bought an M9)

So I got tired of obsessing over crop factors, adapters, and coding lenses. And I've been a good boy, and sold about $1200 worth of stuff to help defray the cost. And I'm 75, so what am I waiting for?

I checked the RFF ads, and KEH. Then I ran across an M9 from Photo Village with a new sensor, for $2795. I pulled the trigger. Now I can be like like Raid, with an M8.2, M9, and a SWC. Of course, I don't have adorable daughters to photograph. But still . . .

I'll have it before the week is out. I think.

Its a son for me, no daughters though. And sadly my M8u is gone, but an M9 has come to take its place. Just need to get its RF adjusted.

Now, where do I find one of these SWC thingys? Hope they're cheap 🙂

BTW, Rob (and other Raid fans). I think Raid has a somewhat extensive collection of lenses. In that respect, I can only dream to be like Raid, but a guy can dream. No?

That is great. I think the M9 is the greatest Leica camera of the digital era. The ones that came after M9 do not seem like Leica. I hope you soon join the M3 Club, as I did. We have all the time to start all over again.:angel:

It actually arrived a day earlier than predicted. I've had it three days now. I'm having a great time trying out my lenses, entering the lens selection in the menu, shooting in the back yard. There were some reports of color shifts with wide angle lenses. And one report saying that the 15mm CV will not work well on the M9.

Here is my 21mm f/2.8 ASPH on the M9. I can't say I see any color shift or anything else to complain about. Of course, This is only one example. I did have the UV-IR filter on. Funny thing: the M9 instruction say not to use the UV-IR filters, warning about color shifting at the edges. I've never noticed anyone here complaining of it, though.

The 15mm may be another story. I'll post that shot in a minute.

Quite a bit of light falloff there. Reminds me of the 21mm SA. In a black & White photo we would call it "drama." This lens also had a 52mm UV/IR filter. Do you see any Color shift?

Congrats, Rob. The M9 rocks. Try out all of your lenses. I use mostly ISO 160 with mine.

A characteristic the camera shares with quite a few other digitals.

Yes, there does seem to be general agreement that we should continue using our IR filters. I was surprised to see, in a downloaded PDF file of the M9 manual, the statement that we should not use the UV/IR filters on the M9, because they will cause color shifting. It seems that the common experience is the opposite. At any rate, I won't be throwing away my UV/IR filters!

Yes, I have been thinking of getting another M3. I wish now that I had not sold mine. But I guess I need to come up for air, just having bought the M9!

I had the LTM version when I had my first M9 and the results were terrible as predicted. This time around I managed to find a Ver.III lens used and it works just super.

Nice sunset! But you cropped it square. What were the left & right edges like?

I wonder if my 15mm Cv is a version III. How do you tell?
