Clearly I'm susceptible to suggestion since I never even had this camera on my radar till I found out the lack of AA filter and noted some minor improvements over the previous version.
Maybe it's the fact that I don't think I'll see the M(240) this year - delivery is not expected till 2014 - and I'm itchy to fill some sort of gap..
Regardless.. the Sony did cross my mind over the last couple of days but I've resisted so far (mainly because of the large outlay for a non-interchangeable lens camera).

didn't you just sell your fuji kit to reduce gear?
The RX1 and R are fantastic performers, I just wish they'd have built-in the EVF.

Ya.. that's the thing.
If I ever did do something like this I would have to re-work MY roadmap... determine if waiting for the M(240) is the right thing to do - or simply stick (and suffer with the weight) with upgrading my Nikon Digital kit and add this thing to it.. don't know if I want to deal with different RAW files anyway..
Just musing of course.

I can live without the EVF... I've been shooting the CoolpixA and haven't seen a need for a VF or EVF so far... I would think (hopefully) using the Sony is similar.

If the coming NEX FF is small enough for you, then perhaps wait and decide between that and the 240? That way you can keep M-mount glass and change your mind again later!

I wonder what Fuji gear you sold. IMO the X100s is the best thing to use if you don't have a digital Leica and are waiting interminably for 240.
Oh in that case pick up a Canon EOS M with the 35mm equivalent for $300 and save $2500.

OK, I know I can't talk, as I was sucked in by the M9. At least the appeal of that camera (for me) does not reside in bleeding-edge gimmickry. Short of an Alpa with a Phase back, there's very little out there now that can get me interested. And I know that's just never gonna' happen! Bah! Humbug!

+1 on the Canon EOS M as a stop-gap compact. It's on a fire-sale now...get it with the 22mm/f2 (35-equivalent) and shoot it with a Leica M adapter until your M240 shows up.
I got mine yesterday and I'm floored...the files are basically dSLR files coming from this little compact camera (yes, basically an APS-C RX1!).

I'm sure the RX1 and RX1R are wonderful cameras, and tickle their owners. But I already have the Leica X2 and it does everything I want from a fixed lens camera.
One of my reasons for picking up the Leicaflex SL kit and some lenses is that in the future, when I have the money and they're a bit more available, I'll have the Leica M(240) ... and I'll have nice Leica lenses up to 180mm to work with it at that point. In the meanwhile, I'll use those lenses with the SL or with the GXR, or the E-1.
My goal for the next year is to reduce the amount of excess camera equipment floating about my home and concentrate more on making photographs and photo books. "A little bit used a lot is better than a lot used a little bit." And to stop spending so much money on equipment.
