I can't identify this Leica

So what's all the metal inside it?

Like I said, soldered electronics or diodes and such that seem to be soldered to the metal ring base on the bottom, connected to that white-ish material up at time probably a sensor of some sort or used to illuminate something.

Nice that someone got this who can appreciate it, and not someone who would toss it in the trash.

Unfortunately it belongs to the store I work for, though I really would not mind having it myself.

I'd try to get some current running through it.. are you sure there isn't room for the jar to fit over a bug, and still attach to the camera??

Yea glass on both sides, and it doesnt 'attach' per se, just that the metal end is about the right diameter to the M39 mount but isnt' a threaded ring or anything like that. The box it came in said "Night vision In Red WW II Surplus" or something like that. I can only imagine that if you did run a current thru it, it probably lit up the white area with reactions to either certain light or wavelengths or something. It's still a bit beyound me as I'm still assuming what the box said is what that might actually be.

the word back from Wetzlar on this is that it was an experimental camera made by Leitz NYC in the early to mid 1930`s possibly for that scientist himself, it was a Leica III at one time, more than likely there`s serial numbers stamped under the top deck lid - interesting and freaky bit of Leica USA history

the word back from Wetzlar on this is that it was an experimental camera made by Leitz NYC in the early to mid 1930`s possibly for that scientist himself, it was a Leica III at one time, more than likely there`s serial numbers stamped under the top deck lid - interesting and freaky bit of Leica USA history

Thats the second confirmation that its' an Experimental body made by Leitz NYC (the first person was a German Leica Collector to say the same).

*Bump* I need to find a means to figure out how much the leica body/lens is worth.

Something strange like that will sell, it`s something odd, but also not a real big popular collectable Leica (like a Leica 72 or 250 or a IIIC K)
but if the right person sees it then it will sell

I`d personally say it`s worth like $4,000 if it`s all complete with the scientists personal effects

Best to bring it away at the Vienna, Austria Auction they get the BEST money
for rare Leica`s, because that auction`s well known for it, you will find someone in Europe faster that`s crazy about a hybrid Leica then here in the states
(that`s my personal opinion)
