When I started buying FSU cameras last summer I had no intention of becoming a collector, but I didn't know which ones I really wanted. But I reckoned they were cheap and I could afford to buy a few and decide which ones to keep, and then sell on the ones I didn't want (because I'm not a collector). Nice in theory, but I kept keeping them.

Well, nearly a year and eight FSU bodies later, I've finally mustered the willpower to do it. I've listed my Fed-3A in the classifieds - I'm really not a collector, you see. The next hard decision is going to be which one to part with next.

Anyone else been through the same traumatic experience?

(Hope you don't mind the plug for my classified ad)

You'll just replace it with 2 more bodies... 😀 😀 🙄

I wonder if AA bans people when they stop drinking?

I've only bought three filters and a LTM to M adopter this afternoon, hic...

Alan,
Can I join that club!!

I started doing the same thing early in 2006,I now have five FSU bodies to my name, one of which, the Mir I sold and later bought back, and in addition there are another four bodies, plus the associated lenses which have left me.

When I started,Kim Coxon smilingly referred to it as 'the slippery slope'.😀

I sort of think that I may have done now-- as soon as the Mir has a light leak rectified.

But then you never know! After all that J3 has quite a reputation, and I haven't got a J8,and a chrome one would match my chrome j12 etc, etc, etc 😉

It's been fun though(apart from that bloody light leak)

Brian.

PS Just remembered that during the year,I also gave away a Fed 4,the original of my FSU stuff, which I picked up at an auction in work in '96.

Well, I should have known better than to expect encouragement from you lot 😀

But I have to confess my motives are not as pure as I might have suggested. I've been making a bit of money buying and selling some gear on eBay (mostly Olympus OM, but keeping more for myself than I really should). So I've set myself a target that will make getting rid of stuff I don't really need easier - I'm going to try to trade my way up to a nice Leica M.

oscroft, you are breaking an open door with us! 😀
Me, like you, was just interested to have a full featured rangefinder at the lowest price. I dreamed about Voigtlander Bessas, just too much expensive to me, when i discovered the Wonderful World of Russian Rangefinder. Fed 5 was my choice: everything on board, meter w/o batteries, self timer, 1" - 1/1000",...
...but when i saw that poor Zorki on that corner...how could i resist?
And how a man could resist when its favourite polish seller tells you "What do you need? Wide angle? I have Orion. I have Jupiter. I have Russar too. You want it? Want this mint Zorki 2? Do you need Drug? Leningrad? Look at this...what? Multiple viewfinder? There is!...... :bang:

I'm glad to say that I have no desire whatsoever to buy anymore gear. I have all I need to my satisfaction. With the arrival with my bessa R afew weeks ago and my 35/2.5 color skopar lens a few days back I wan't to now finally put my concentration on my photography. The only major thing I lack is a good scanner but I can get my lab to put it on cd at a good price.

I'm not a collector either, I just buy FSUs and keep them...

This is no joke, I started buying these cameras in the 1970's and I don't think I've sold one, the sad thing is except for a few Kiev 4's most have had very little use.

I believe I still have the TOE catalog from the period with the UK prices for cameras and accessories.

My story is a little different - I used to be a Minolta SLR man, then I "went digital" and got rid of the SLR gear. I regretted not keeping one though so I bought the X-700 off *bay. Whilst browsing on there I saw a Zorki 1e, which just looked so cute I had to have one to try it out. Was so impressed I started looking at the other FSUs (I inherited the Kiev 4). One thing led to another and now I have all the major Zorki/FED models bar the elusive Zorki 3 (I'm not paying silly prices for one...yet!). I haven't got film through them all yet, but that's "in progress" and I intend that most will be "users".

I don't need your Fed 3... :bang:

And I can't even claim I need the I-61 lens - I have 2 already! 😱

All I have to do is think of my fiancee and how she would kill me if I bought your camera! 😉
