Happy New Year Folks.
Mine couldn't start in a worst way: i accidently droppped my M6 and it fell on the rewind crank. :bang:
It doesn't move anymore, like if it was stuk into the body.
Does anyone know how much the repair will cost? And if it can be repaired?

Bertil,

Don (DAG) is an officially trained Leica technician. He also frequently has much lower repair prices than Solms.

For instance, his prices for installing the flare-free optics into M6s is much less expensive than Leica's official prices. I don't know if flare bothers you, but you could have that worked on at the same time you have the wind crank looked at.

Try sending him and Solms an email and compare the rates. Don is very responsive on email and a nice guy to work with.

No, I don't think it is worth sending to Solms unless it is cheaper to repair it there. Don has a long history of Leica repair work and I would trust him with any Leica body problem. When sending from the EU, just use USPS Express Mail (insurance and tracking), and you will be fine.

Some of the M6, M6TTLs and early M7 (pre-MP) suffer from flare in the rangefinder patch when viewed at certain angles. It slows down focusing and is quite annoying.

DAG and others will install a condenser lens into the optics/RF system to prevent flare from happening. Makes for a much more pleasurable focusing experience. Well worth having done if you have experienced flare in your RF patch.

I had one M6 that had the optics installed, and another that didn't, the difference was dramatic, so I finally sent the second one in to have it installed as well. On the internet, it is also referred to as having the MP optics installed (although that is not technically correct).

what about a place in paris, pro photo service? if they are still around. they were on blvd port royal for years. looked like good repair techs in the 80s & 90s.
 
Bertil that is a very unfortunate thing to happen on the first day of the year. But look at it this way - you have probably got all your bad luck for the year out of the way already. :D I second Tom's recommendation of Don Goldberg (www.dagcamera.com); an excellent Leica-trained repair technician.

Looks like i'll get the condenser lens as well as getting my sweet M6 fixed.
I get really anoyed by the flaring in some particular situations.
Will that help the focusing when the camera is held vertical as well?
 
If the vertical alignment is off as well I suggest you have a "CLA" (cleaning, lubricating, adjustment) done along with the rewind repair and flare service. You will have a new & improved M6 when you get it back.

dag rebuilt my m6 and installed the flare free fix- sweet, and like new, or as he said, good for another 20 years.
i've also had excellent work done by sherry and youxin on other leicas.

It's likely all you have done is to dent the rewind crank itself, as I did a few months ago. The crank is straightforward to remove. There is a tiny grub screw under the handle when you fold it out. If you unscrew this (it is very small indeed, don't lose it!) then you can unscrew the rewind crank itself. This literally screws off the axle. If yours has been hit hard then you may have to unscrew it by turning the take-up spool instead as the crank won't turn. The rewind crank is over £50 from Leica for a little aluminium casting with a fold out crank that looks like any other rewind crank but is obviously made with much higher tolerances and painted with very special black paint :) :)
 
Don (DAG) told me that bent rewind cranks are very common on newer M bodies. Mine was bent, and at his suggestion I installed one from a SL-2 - it's brass instead of aluminum, and is a perfect fit. Installation is as detailed above by Andrew. DAG sells them...
