My M5s need red dots!
I went the opposite direction: sold my Contax G gear when I came into Leicas.
My problem with the camera was the noise. Whirring to focus, whirring to unfocus (every time I turned it off), the clackety shutter (try photograph people in the street...).
But I was fascinated with the design... My fingers wrapped around that camera like it was second nature. The sharpness of my images on transparencies was great... and it had a very good AF! Once you get the hang of it, you'll never get misfocused images.
The best: flash synchronization at all speeds. I found it out by burning a roll of Fuji print film shooting my patient cat Ben. Not just flash sync at 1/1000... but TTL. I never used the TL2000 (too short or low), but the TL140. Sure: you get red eye... but then, when your subjects are not looking at the camera, there's no problem.
I had a Contax G1 with green label, and the two Planars (35 and 45). My favorite was the wider lens... Just because I like wide-angles. Great piece of equipment...
Enjoy yours!

Hi Francisco,
You are right about the noise...but as you say it has a really nice grip when you hold the camera. I personally did not like the focusing system...not being able to manual focus over the lens feels weird...and it can be tricky if you shoot reflections, the mechanism might be fooled...and it does not look very accurate when you manually focus...
I still have my leica and I think I still love my leica more
I would like to try out the wonderful 21mm but mine is silver label...

Never mind the noise, that keyhole named viewfinder is pain.

I have very little trouble with the G1 viewfinder, and I wear glasses. I'm not sure what all the fuss is about over focusing and the VF, but I've only put one roll through the G1 I just got and already I feel comfortable with it.

Sometimes I think I'm the only one who loves the G finder..
Never had an issue with it and I love the positioning / how it sticks out
G2 with 45mm and 400vc +2

Thought I'd chime in with my 2 cents on the Contax G1/G2 fan-club.
I'm in total agreement with everyone -- these are great cameras. The lenses are even more epic.
There's something about the Contax glass ... the lenses have a certain "look" that is subtle yet powerful. It's as if each Biogon lens is coated with magic dust to make your pictures look artistic and intriguing. Maybe that's what the blue stuff is on the mounting ring! LOL!
A couple samples from my G2. First one taken with the 90mm, the second with the 45mm.
