Hi

I just found a Contax G2 black kit in a local flea market, in Lima, Perú. (I live here)
So the kit comes with the 28, 45 and 90 lenses, flash, hoods and remote control. Aluminium case. I saw it quickly and turned on the camera. It seems to be in mint condition. Lenses like new.
I think it is a standard kit.
the seller wants US$1400 for everything. (He knew what he had)

It seems a good price for me. What do you think?
If I want to buy from ebay or BH or KEH I have to pay 30% in taxes at custom. So I prefer to buy from local stores here.

I didn´t have a budget for that kind of equipment now, but I have the feeling that it is a very good camera and a very rare oportunity to get one. Maybe I can sell a DSRL lens ...

Contax is very difficult to service in most places. The price is still pretty high compared for such a system in the Netherlands.

If you're lucky in the long termin it can be a reasonable deal. But maybe for looking into the future a Leica M system is at the end a better deal. You can also expand it by the Cosina Voigtländer lenses or Zeiss with M Mount or use an LTM adapter.

For US$ 1400 you can also have a nice M6 with a Summicron 2.0/50mm.

Best regards,

Robert

A Contax kit in that condition and in an aluminium case, in a FLEA market? No doubt the seller knows what he has got and is pricing it accordingly, but what about legitimacy of ownership???

Make sure it all works properly. If there are any issues with the autofocus or shutter, you definitely don't want it. I just bought a black G2, G28 and G45, and paid about $1450 for it and I'm in the states, so I'm quite envious of you! :D

Are you planning on shooting with it?

Are you planning on shooting with it?

It's a good price, if you use comparables, such as black kits in the marketplace.

It's not a good price if you really plan to use it and can't accustom yourself to the issues often related on the two Contax G bodies. Difficulty in focusing and particularly so with the 90mm. The issues with focusing mentioned above were not usually hardware issues, but rather getting accustomed to the small patch for focus and getting accustomed to compose the center on the focus subject, lock focus with half shutter, and recompose. It's a user accomodation issue.

Have you been searching for this camera and therefore, done your due diligence?

Or, did you just run across this camera and become smitten. That black kit is rather gorgeous.

I've had both bodies and the full original kit. I never kept either one very long. The autofocus is a bit fiddly and using manual focus even more-so, speaking of my experience. However, the questions about focus come up often, and Contax even started providing a supplemental focus manual, along with the regular manual.

Is this kit one that has that supplemental manual. Same color treatment as the user manual and about half as thick?

The lenses are superb, but the bodies do not meet the same standards as the lenses. If I ever have a chance to buy the Contax G, I would only do it to get the lenses since there are now adaptors to adapt them to digital.

That flea market is a very big place here where people go to sell used products. You can find Hassys for $2000 here. And new 30" LED TVs also.
I don´t have a way to find out about ownership, the seller just doesn´t say a word. He gives receipts and 6 months guarantee on the product.

Whare do you find that?

On Dutch http://www.marktplaats.nl

A regular price for a very good shape M6 is Eur. 800 - 1000 max.

I had a mint M7 0.58 5 years ago for Eur. 1400,00 Together with an Elmarit 2,8/28mm for Eur. 2200,00

In that way Leica seems to be high priced outside Europe. Same like Jobo. It's amazing what kind of price people are paying for this in the USA while in the Netherlands you can have them almost for free. (CPE/CPA/CPP processors).

Maybe I have to start an import / export company for these things :) :)

Please do!!! Haha. I need one.

flea markets were supposed to sell stuff at prices which reflected the seller had no idea what he had on his hands... :D
