I hate this word...

Brian, DON'T give the newspeakers another free ride... "Vector hazard"... sounds like a sequel to "Apocalypse Now".

So (I think I just made Roger glower by starting like this)...the only word I've come up with, believe it or not, is "film." No, not pertaining to the stuff itself (can't get enough of it), but its incredibly sloppy use in recent years:

Video Guy: We're having a tough time filming this...

Me: Taping, you mean?

VG: Huh?

Me: Yeah, taping. You're not filming anything, you're shooting on
tape. Or...

VG: ---- off, guy, I got a hard drive in
this bad boy!

Me: I was about to say...

VG: Yeah. Cool, huh?

Me (in my best James Garner voice): Groovy.

Maybe it could be moved to the "and now for something completely different forum".
Only if you're expecting a, er, Spanish Inquisition...

"Film"...noun or verb...sounds so much better than "Analog" in my book...:D

People who think everyone loves digital and make silly pronouncements about the death of film. Yeah, right. Gee, bicycles are still around, and they're technology from 100 years ago? A technology only becomes obsolete when it's improved. Seen any digital pics lately that are better than Tri-X w/ a good film camera? Balls.

I hate you lot! Now you've got me going on my pet hates...

Non-photography words:
key, impact, sustainable (in order of most over-used and abused)

Definitely 'key' when used to describe something other than a metal object used for opening a lock, as in "This activity is key". I hear that a lot in work at the moment and I hate it.

I'm definitely with you on the apostrophe thing. I'm trying not to let it annoy me too much now but I did once send an email back to my boss refusing to work on something because he'd put an apostrophe on a plural in his request.

I have trouble over pronounciations. I tend to learn about things by reading mostly and rarely talk to people about photography so I never learn how other people pronounce Leica, bokeh or Voigtlander.

I agree completely, although discreet is a legitimate word with a different meaning from discrete.

Yes, discrete is a useful, neat little word. But then I get irritated by people saying disinterested because it sounds classier than uninterested (I've had the latter changed to the former in supposedly reputable magazines), or "between you and I" because it sounds classier than "between you and me," or "comprising of" because it sounds classier than consisting of.

But I acknowledge that this is a character flaw, for what's the point about getting irritated by such everyday occurrences?

I can't believe nobody has mentioned 'lomography' (when used instead of the word 'photography' and not to refer to the company) and *hack, spit* 'lomographer'!

of course, then there are those who hate digital just because...;)

If you wanna get technical, there are analog photography processes that are not film based.

Sony Mavica. 1982. I have some of the 2" video floppies for it somewhere.

I still have some optical disks for the Panasonic TQ2026 Video Recorder if anyone needs them. Stop-Frame animation using analog recording to Video Disk. They would make nice faces for analog clocks.

Digital. I had a program crash and the TIASC came back with program status word = '00002BAD'. Who says computers don't have a sense of humor?

I hate Program Staus Words that come back with '00002BAD'

lol

lol

this one used to irk me, now it's just amusing:

[cleaning marks, small scratch, some haze, some dust, chipped glass, missing elements, etc.] "but it won't affect the image"

"Nice tones"
"Pleasing composition"

"Cleaning marks" is a good one.

Does anyone really ask, "Is that digital"? It seems to me, if they don't know cameras, they probably figure everything is digital. If they do know cameras, they know.

Cheers,
Gary
