I have too many 50mm lenses. Do you too?

nikkor 50/1.8 for my fe2 slr.

fixed hexanon 47/1.9, which i reckon is close enough to 50 to be one, konica s III.

i-26 and i-60 for the FED-2.

I have too many, a bunch of Canons from .95 to 2.8, mr. Noctilux, a couple of Zeiss... and no time to shoot!
Definitely a waste of resources....

Wow, this is an old thread.

I have so many 50's, that it is hard to find them all. Some come to me "broken" and need some work. Yesterday I transplanted the locking tab from a Zeiss 5cm F2 collapsible left over from a conversion to a Black Nikkor-S 5cm F1.4. Dremel required.

Brian,
Such a thread topic is always relevant as people change their habits.
Some use equipment which they did not in the past, and vice versa.

Well- the Nikkor just became "m-Mount" using a Contax to M-Mount adapter, bought here years ago for $90. An early Hong Kong adapter that missed the focus.

Trivia: the Nikkor 5cm F1.4 and Nikkor 13.5cm F3.5 use the same shims... What Luck, had one spare shim and it corrected the focus for the "off" adapter perfectly!

This is a great lens adaptation.
It must feel good to be able to get such work done.
All I know is statistics.

I have:

50mm Summilux II
50mm Summicron IV
Summarit 1,5/.5cm (just purchased, on its way)
1,1/50 Nokton
Canon 1,4/50 LTM

I don't know what it is, but I love 50mm.

Yes, probably too many. I will probably need to make some tough choices in the future as to which to keep.

- 5cm collapsible Summicron
- (3x) 50mm Noctilux 1.2, 1.0, 0.95
- (2x) 50mm 1.4 Summilux ASPH and regular
- 50mm f2 Summicron Ver IV

- 50mm f2 ELCAN
- 50mm f1.4 Summicron R

- 5cm f1.4 Nikkor non AIS
- 5cm f2 Nikkor H non AIS
- do my two 58mm Nikkor lenses count?

So, twenty? Ohmigod, I need help.

Oh, is that the Sonnetar? Do you like it?

I haven't gotten any films shot with it back yet. But I love the size and weight. The ergonomics are fine for me, just some getting used to.

Assuming the image quality of the Sonnetar at f/1.4 and f/1.1 is decent, I think I could pair it with the DR Summicron and have eveything I need in a 50mm lens (speed and sharpness).

I'm a little worried about some of the bokeh I've see from the Sonnetar. And it may be just a little too soft wide open. We'll see.

I need MORE 50s. I've only got four. Five, if you count the 25mm DG Summilux for the mf3 system. Or nine, if you count the 35mm lenses I used on the M8 as 50s.

...only have one. I hate the 50mm focal length, but in the extremely rare instance (about 5 photographs a year), I feel I need it. I haven't shot it yet in 2013 and if 2014 hits and I haven't used it, bon voyage 50mm summicron!

Thankfully to the fact i out of the loop of affording these expensive wonders from Leica, i have but one for my M.The collapsible Summicron.
Sadly due to the Tsunami Digital wave, i own Many 50mm lenses for SLR.
Pentax with 2,Ricoh with one,Nikon with 2, Canon with 3,Fuji with 2, Minolta with 2..
i love the focal length.. i guess..

50's are addictive.

I have 5 50's, too many, want to cut it down to two or so.

Jupiter-3 (2 of them)
Jupiter-8 (In contax mount for my Kiev)
Industar-26M (Decent performance but ugly looking lens)
Elmar 2.8 (Great lens but think I'd like a summicron).

I think I am going to sell all but one of the Jupiter-3's and the J-8 and replace them with a summicron.
