I have too many 50mm lenses. Do you too?

I'm waiting on the mail for a very special 50mm lens.

It's a 50mm f2 CZJ-S uncoated pre-war Sonnar in ltm.

The -S stands for Sweeney!

Frank,

If I didn't already own a Zeiss 50/2 LTM, I would have been sending Brian emails to get one like you did.

Hmmm...

Summicron DR
Elmar-M
Canon 1.2
VC 2.5
Elmar 3.5

I'm "just waiting for the mail" to bring me another Elmar 3.5, this time a nickel version to live on my IID.

Regards,

Bill

What's special about the nickel version of the Elmar? I don't know which version my Elmar is.

Anyways, I have added another 50mm lens to my set.
It is a CZJ 50mm/2.8 Tessar machined into a LTM.

I sold my modified Anastigmat a while ago, it still finances the habit.

But I still have a Hector (pretty useless) Summars various in nickel and chrome, 3,5 Elmars from fixed through red scale to Elmar M and a Summarit.

Oh, and a late Summicron with built in hood.

What do I want? A nice Summitar...or Noctilux...

Which one do I not like? The Summicron.

Michael

Oh Raid, what have you done to me? I now have:-

Elmar, nickel, uncoated 11 o'clock
Elmar, nickel, uncoated 7 o'clock
Elmar, chrome, coated
Canon f1.4#
Nikkor f1.4 "Tokyo", close focus
Summilux f1.4
Summar, uncoated, f2
Summitar, coated f2

It would have been more, but for the sale of a collapsible Summicron M and Canon f1.8 recently.

I must shoot more film!

I got three at the moment:

- 1/50 Noctilux;
- 1.4/50 Summilux ASPH;
- 1.4/50 Canon LTM

the last is just arrived, and I will develop a roll shot with it today or tomorrow and see what this lens is about :D

I have a Nikon 50/1.4 LTM, a 50/2.8 M old version and silver and black 50/2.8 new M versions, a 50/2 rigid and a 50/1.4 'lux ASPH. As I used to also have a 3rd gen. 50 'cron, I had to sell that one to make the stable of reasonable size ...

This old thread was also on having too many 50mm lenses. It seems to be a thread subject that won't fade away.

I've got one 50, a Nikkor 50mm 1.4 AI, which is one 50 too many.
Absolutely useless lens. Too short for long work and too long for short work.

Let's see;

1 Summar uncoated
2 Elmars /3.5
1 Summarit
1 Summitar
1 Summicron

All Mint- to Mint.
And I've only got 2 M's and 3 III's, I might have to pick up another body.

for rangefinder i got:
summilux
jupiter 8
industar-50

that's almost more than i need, but a noctilux or a voightländer 1.1 would be nice!

It is a state of mind; in your case, you are blocking to see the usefulness of the most useful of all lenses. :D

Take a step back, and your 50mm lens is slightly wide angle.
Take a step closer, and your 50mm lens becomes a short tele.

It is amazing!

I have these lenses, but they are not mint or mint- like your lenses. Only the Summicron is mintish because I bought it that way.

I only have two 50mm lenses for my Leica.....one is a version 1 summilux and the other is a rigid......and to be honest, I have one too many..... I only need one 50mm......

cheers, michael

I would suggest that having a Summilux, there is no need for anything faster unless you love to try out many lenses, as I do.

Try the Canon 50/1.2, which is more affordable than a Noctilux. If needed, send it to DAG for optimization.

Guess I qualify for the too many 50's club as well.

Summitar x2
M-Elmar 2.8
M-Elmar 3.5
ltm Elmar uncoated
Summar
Summicron DR
Summilux v2
Jupiter J8

and a chiyoko 45/2.8 which doesn't count.
I daren't think about the non RF 50's..
so I do a few lenses now and again I can handle it
