I've got a collapsible 50 Elmar in LTM, which I keep because it fits the whole shebang in my pocket.
I've got a collapsible Summicron in LTM because the rest of the time I wan't a faster lens than the Elmar.
I've got a rigid chrome 50 Cron for my M3 because its from the same period, looks cool, and I dont use the lens or the camera with any other combo. I admit there's no photographic reason I bought or keep this set and I make no apologies.
I've got a 11817 1969 Cron which is my main 50, it takes the 39mm filters of the rest of the lenses (21, 35, 90 and 135) in my "extensive" travel outfit.
I've got an E43-type 50 Summilux which I bought for low-light situations but as it ends up unless I'm travelling with a full set of lenses (see 39mm filter comment above), I've been using the Lux for everything.
So perhaps I have too many 50s, but unless I need the money for food I'm not planning to sell any of them. If I had to, I'd sell all but the Summilux and the Elmar.

Myself actually, I have used every one of those excuses to double up on a lens at one point!

I have a beautiful Canon 50/2.8 lens in LTM. If such a lens is useful to you, email me. I forgot which mount the Bessa R is.

Oh come on, some of you have zillions of 50's and not one of you guys feels like trading ONE of them for my techno-horrorshow-Canon? Come on, it's over there in the 35mm-Classifieds...
I've only got one, a Nikon AI 50mm f:1.8. Oh, and I guess the 55mm Micro-Nikkor would count also. But none in Leica-M. Well, I've got one I can use, but it's on loan.

Too many -- I know I'll probably overlook one or two; this is for Contax:
4 or 5 (?) various 50/1.5 Sonnar's
2 50/2 collapsible Sonnar's
2 50/2 Sonnar
1 50/3.5 Rigid Tessar
1 50/3.5 Collapsible Tessar
1 50/2.8 Collapsible Tessar
Of all those lenses I could live with one 50/1.5 and the rigid 3.5 Tessar; the rest occupy space.

Ah, yes, the joys of lens connoisseurship. Each one has its own unique fingerprint, it's own je ne sais quoi, ideally suited to a particular scene. . .
My 50mm stash:
- 50/2 Summicron (tabbed)
- 50/2 DR Summicron
- 50/1.5 VC Nokton
- 50/2 Jupiter-8
- 50/2.8 Industar-61
- 50/1.8 Canon Serenar
That's not all that excessive, is it? IS IT??? The nice thing about 50s is that they are relatively inexpensive, so it's not such a stretch to try several.
Seriously, if I could only have one, it would probably be the DR Summicron, with the modern tabbed Summicron a very close second. The VC Nokton is primarily for available light. The Jupiter-8 is matched with my Zorki-4, and doesn't focus on the Leicas. The I-61 was a cheap experiment. The 50/1.8 Canon I bought just because I'd heard good things about it. It's at DAG's getting 50 years of fog removed, and I can't wait to try it.
One of these days I'll probably pick up an f/3.5 collapsible, just to try the formula and have something compact. No hurry.

Question: Isn't too many lenses (of any FL) a kinda silly question? If so, why should 50s be any different? ;-)

Just some guy, you know?
Many are Never Enough.
Many are Never Enough.
As long as we're only counting 50's, I think I won't be too embarrassed. Besides, this is a good way for me to do some "mental inventory". Of course, the overall effect of reading this thread has been to remind me of what NEW 50's I want to buy. Grrr-eat.
For LTM:
50/1.8 Canon Serenar
50/2 Jupiter-8
55/2.8 Industar-61L/D (still a "50", no?)
For Canon FD:
50/1.4 Canon SSC ("Chromenose" - this lens is incredible, a personal favorite)
50/1.8 Canon nFD (2 of these at the moment)
For Pentax screwmount/m42
58/2 Helios-44-2 (very nice portrait lens I've recently become acquainted with)
50/3.5 Industar-50-2 (the Tessar clone, currently on-order from the 'bay)
...that's it, I think. I'm currently thinking about a J-3, since they're so beautiful-looking (and make nice images, too - I'm getting more and more Sonnar-covetous). Someday I'll start buying Leitz glass, and of course everything will go straight to hell after that. The first step in that direction will probably be a Summitar, of course.

I've got a current 50mm Summicron that I've been using for a couple of years.
I'm ordering an 50mm Elmar M today.
I like the 50mm angle of view the best and rarely use my 35 Summicron ASPH.
I'll probably sell the 35mm eventually and get some more 50's! Same angle of view - different signature.

I'm in the process of buying an old Summitar. There is no cure for the 50mm-disease.

I have a Leitz Anastigmat 50mm f3.5 5 element in an Elmar mount. For the record I should say that results were quite good but the potential value has tempted me into putting it up for auction in Vienna this November.
I rather wanted to become a collector of traditional Elmars...with infinty lock/without infinty lock/red scale/black scale/11 o'clock/7 o'clock etc...but decided life was too short.
However I also have a current Elmar M and Summicron. I love the Elmar, the Summicron has to go, it is chrome and weighs a ton.

FED 50 ...same as above but coated
Jupiter8 ..my Bessa R go everywere lens...soo light and fast
Jupiter3 ...decentered but nice
Too much fifties? I´m dreaming of a ZM Sonnar and an Heliar so im afraid there is no cure!

I dont have enough 50s
I only have J-8 silver and black, J-3 (my favourite so far), 2x I-61, and an older Elmar with stark haze.
Who has an extra summicron to sell? version 2 or 3 or collapsible and preferably from europe (so I dont have to pay customs). I also want to set my foot into i-have-too-many-50s-club

Mental Experimental.
I have one. I'm proud of that.
Course, once I add the Nokton 50 it'll be two...then I'm going to finally want that Elmar...
