Lenses 35/21 Gears 46/20
I have Canon 500D with 28-75 2.8 and 70-200 lenses. Took a lot of images with this kit few years ago. I was charging batteries every other day.
Later I added 5D with 50L and 100L for FF magic and macro.
Lost my interest in macro a while ago and don't really need 100L lens.
500D is not in use for months. 5D with 28-75 or 50D is in regular use for indoor, near home outdoors family pictures. My FF estetical
needs are 75% or so covered with film cameras now.
I completely lost my motivation to take DSLRs out. I'd rather take old $40 Panasonic P&S, but this little thing is playing H&S with me and I'm losing it constantly.
5D with 50L is huge and heavy, 500D eats batteries and I need to use grip to have two of batteries for long hikes.
I have to keep 500D with 28-75 and 70-200 and it will works fine for DSLR kit. I could sell 5D, 50L and 100L.
If I sell all three items, plus some film gear and "save on breakfasts" for half of the year, I'll be able to afford cheapest offer on used M9, which is as old as 5D and has outgoing sensor issues.
If I sell only 100L which is not in use and some film gear I don't need anymore I could afford M8. But it is crop and my 21, 35 and 50 M mount lenses wouldn't do what I need them to do.
I was thinking of A7 for M lenses, as modern camera without crop factor, but I don't like to have different camera system and A7's EVF makes me dizzy (some other less advanced EVF equipped cameras don't).
Or should I just swap 100L for X100Q, because it is small, sexy, has OVF and I don't mind wide lens?
I want smallish and stylish camera to take out with me and photograph my family and friends. It is hard to do it with small and not so small film cameras all the time.
My iPhone is great for "home" video, but pictures from it aren't up to my needs. Same feeling from what I see from all current small sensor cameras. APC-S or less (no) crop factor is for me.
Thank you, Ko.

Go Fuji XF! X-E1 and manual film glass or 27mm pancake is a cheap entry point.
My flickr album of X-E1 and various old glass, some with metabones speed booster to reverse crop factor, some with plain glass-less adapter: https://www.flickr.com/photos/46459541@N02/albums/72157647497466020

But you can call me Steve
I'll second Fuji but offer the Xe2 with the 18-55 for starters.

Touché - the 18-55 is a fantastic lens, pretty much the direct opposite of a typical "kit zoom."

Is Digital Split Image manual focusing mode supported in EVF or on LED only?

Kostya, if you experience dizziness/vertigo etc. with EVF-only cameras, the X100 makes sense as a light do-it-all family cam, as does the slightly heavier X-Pro. With the X-Pro, too, your M lenses add another option (for even if you disdain the 1.5 crop, in practice it can augment at 28/50/75 what you can do in film at 21/35/50).
ZM 50 1.5
Serenar 100 3.5
The original X models grow ever more affordable. I picked up an X-Pro for $325 a few months ago as a partner for my X-E1.
Luckily I have no trouble with EVF, so the A7 is my current FF solution.

You might find it too fussy to mount optical viewfinders in the shoe for legacy lenses, but if you are (as I imagine from your FSU film practice) comfortable with zone focus/aperture, this can work. Yet if you can afford an M8 with your current sell-off plan, you can also afford an A7 with its 35 2.8 or 55 1.8--and then you could mount an optical VF while using AF.

I'm not sure which models offer Digital Split Image, but X-E1 does not. It has "zebra" stripe focus peaking, I've only ever used it in the EVF.

My $40 P&S is also viewfinderless. So, I have this option already.

Only with A7. My old Fuji PS and some NEX camera I have tried - no problems. The A7 floor model at BestBuy I have tried has significant lag to me for image stabilization time after panning or bringing it to my eyes quickly and this takes me on vertigo side. It seems to have very high resolution and refreshing rate not so high.
X-Pro is too big and I'm not into longer lenses on crop or even FF bodies.
More on real 28, 35 and 50.
I wasn't using FSU with viewfinders, not big fan of it on my M4-2 for 25 /4 either.

Hmmm... X-E1 EVF can lag some too.
Not to sound facetious, but the solution might be to just wait a year or two. Seems like this market sector is advancing rapidly... your perfect machine may come along

Honestly, I don't think that any camera will pull you over this. What you feel has nothing to do with your camera but with what is between your ears.
Trying to find a camera that will pull you out of it is only just going to be a waste of money trying to find what you lost: motivation.

For the X-E2, you might want to test the digital rangefinder gizmo. It isn't at all like an optical one : there are four stripes, and they go out of focus, as well as moving laterally. Focus peaking works reasonably well, but it still is focus by wire : slightly laggy and easy to overshoot.
However, it is easy to set up the camera for hyperfocal shooting : you get a nice distance scale, with a depth of field indicator.
It is an ok camera : the main dials are in the right spot. Too many buttons and menu items, of course, but most of the time, they stay out of the way.
Cheers

Don't bother with the XE-1 it's focusing in low light is a horror show, get
the XE-2 or wait till the XE-3 comes out or get a good little Micro 4/3rds.

I don't understand this. I use them. No problem.

Really, I had one and it drove me nuts with the 18-55mm lens on it.

Just do it sell everything get an m8 or a sony a7.
The refresh rate made you dizzy might be due to poor setting in the camera store where iso is too low or the lens is closed down. When the sensor has good light and high iso indoors, no lags at all.
Anyway think less and just do it is my advice.

Maybe it is like on Graflex RF in the flashlight mode.
Are yours recent pictures taken with X-E2? I like IQ and how you handle it for great results. Impressive close up shots, this is what I after for family, friends photos. Is it difficult to get photos like these with this camera?
