I love 12x16!

Tonight I spent 4 hours printing 12x16. I love this size and the impact of very visible grain from pushed film.

That looks amazing, I have never printed that large. I do have some paper though I think, I might just give it a shot. Was it difficult to have even results?

The only problem I had was working with my ultra large easel which I had never previously touched as the last one maxed out at 11x14. I made test prints with postcard sized paper of the same type and then had success with each 12x16. I really need to learn how to work the Jobotronic 2000 and ditch test strips altogether 🙂

Prints this big as really worth selenium toning for preservation...another thing I have never tried.
 
That's great. I am not currently able to do large prints. I hope to in the not too distant future since I now have an enlarger again.

Look out! Years ago in Korea, when I had unlimited access to a craft shop and inexpensive supplies, I sometimes went to 24x30 for portraits. It can be addictive. 🙂
 
12x16 is my favoured print size, it seems a waste sometimes to print smaller. ofcourse size as also image dependent, some images look better smaller and some larger.

I really want to try a 30x24 or larger print size next time I hire out my usual darkroom 🙂
 
I really like big enlargements of 35mm negatives ... you can see the structure of the negative as much as you can see the image!

I'm getting darkroom gas!

Selenium toning is really easy and as long as you do it outside of the house, the ammonia smell is not bad at all.

And contrary to what I often read, the difference is visible even for RC papers, not just for FB.
 
Very satisfying prints by the OP - they really look more 'significant' when one gets over 12" in one dimension !

Talking of easels, larger ones are both expensive and difficult to find these days. As a cheapish temporary alternative you can print on a big bit of hardboard (or similar) using a black matte board as the masking frame. You can find a lot of standard pre-cut sizes cheaply in art shops.

You don't need to tone with Selenium outside at all. The fumes are just ammonia and are mostly surface fumes. I've Se toned in the kitchen and darkroom. Same overall smell.

Se toner has a lot of associated "danger" hype around it and while I don't recommend you bathe in it, most of the hype is just that: hype.
