I am meeting him for a beer tomorrow....
I am sooooo excited.....I started off my night pretty bad and decided to go out and drink some beers....
well, long story short....I saw a couple of "western" photographers sitting at a table and one of the guys had an M9....well, I approached the table and started to ask some questions about the camera....I said that I was Leica user too and I asked what everybody was doing here....he said that they were attending a photo workshop...
I asked who was teaching it and he pointed to some guys at the table and said "David Alan Harvey, Michael Yama****a and another guy from Magnum.....well, David introduced himself to me and we shook hands and exchanged small talk...they asked me a couple of questions about what I was doing here and I asked them some questions about the workshop...after a couple of minutes I said goodbye and walked away....
about 30 minutes later I thought to myself that I should of talked with them more....but I didn't and I figured that I was lucky to have met them....anyways, about 2 hours later I saw David on the street alone and I approached him....this time we talked for awhile and it was really cool...I asked him about some of the photos that he had taken in Bangkok that I had seen earlier and he asked me some questions too.....
well, he invited me to meet him and the other guys for a beer tomorrow night....I am soooo excited......I could write for hours about what we talked about and stuff, but I won't...I just wanted to share my experience with you guys tonight and tell you about my night....
cheers, michael

Probably my favorite photographer. His books "Cuba" and "Divided Soul" are well worn companions.

Harvey is the great teacher and cool guy. I'm one of the lucky ones who has been able to attend his loft workshop in Brooklyn.
We in Austin are also very happy that David has accepted an offer from the Austin Center for Photography to lecture and offer a workshop here in March.

Michael,
Lucky You!!!
You're talking about Michael Yama****a from NG, in my opinion one the best travel photographers of all times and a nice guy to boot
. I met him, for the first time, years ago when he lived in Mendham, N.J.

I find the censor patronizing, as if to say this mature forum would overnight turn into a flaming/spam war if we were allowed to swear.
Hopefully this will make up for those issues you had a few weeks or so back.

Simple business model. Owner/member photographers give Magnum a (substantial) percentage of their income to be represented by them. The more photographers, the more income.

The third photographer is Ira Block, another National Geographic photographer.

I personally think Magnum has lost their way, and diluted their impact. But, that's another story.

no way! magnum is doing a lot better than it was in the 90s. they've got their feet back on the ground, doing lots of terrific editorial work, fine art, and book publishing.
anyway, i'm super jealous that michael is having a beer with DAH.
