I miss my Contax T2 lens. Recommendations for Leica?

That Rollei 40 can be prone to haze, and i have had one cosmetically ruined by a reputable Rollei repairman who couldn't open it up, but didn't seem to mind trying what seemed to be a pipe wrench to get into it.

DHW Fototechnik told me afterwards that the lens can't really be opened for cleaning.

It is a lovely lens however, I've had a couple of them over the years, however all but one of them had at least a touch of haze.

The MGR lens barrel conversion for the Minilux Summarit is far superior to the MS Optical conversions which are fiddly and un-ergonomic. It feels like an OEM lens barrel. The Sonnar conversion barrel should be similar, hope it comes out soon.

I too have seen several Rollei that are hazy

nice anniversary revival of this thread!

of course the correct answer is the ROLLEI 40 2.8. In chrome/brass.

I have the black version of the Rollei 40 2.8. Were equal amounts of black and chrome and made, or more chrome?

Any other options, perhaps not so rare? Curious about this now. Would go up to 50mm.

I actually miss the Tessar on my Yashica t4 for the same reason. Great color saturation and look but don't want some fiddly, expensive retrofit.

plenty of tessar designs in the industar series.
i use a collapsible industar 50 - best bargain i ever got, however the elmar is the better lens.

There is a Rollei 40mm on the big auction site in silver. I recall reading somewhere that this lens can't be opened up for a CLA. Something worth considering...

Just checked mine. Haze free. Sounds strange that the lens could not be opened for a CLA. After all it was put together, just like other lenses. Even though it says made in Germany on it, it looks just like my Cosina Voigtlander lenses, especially the 50 2.5.
