I do have a film scanner, a Minolta Diamage Scan Multi from 1999. Unfortunatly, it is SCSI, and I have a new I-MAC (24"), so it probably will not connect, even with an adapter. The thing being 10 years old is a problem as well. So what are my choices, both new and used? I have read alot about the Nikon Super Coolscan 9000, and I hear the film holders for medium format are flimsy and terrible (the one with my Minolta is very sturdy and of high quality). So what is best, both used and new for my Mac? It would be nice to only spend $700 to $800 for something used that would get the job done very well. I have a new Epson 3800, so 17"x22" is the size I want. How about the last Diamage Scan Multi Pro Minolta made with USB connection? Other recomendations?

Congratulations on your new iMac!
I am in the same process of buying a scanner. Currently I am using a friends Coolscan 9000 and it scans great. However the entire mechanics of the auto advance of the film is not the smoothest thing in the world. The software I use is Vuescan Pro (because I have it for free and the Nikon SW crashed the Mac's constantly....)
From what I have learned so far is that for scanning 35mm using a dedicated film scanner is best. Medium format and up goes best on flat bed scanners like the Epson's V500, V700 and V750 eventually with a 3rd party MF film holder....
For 35mm I am myself looking into Microtek witch are ok if you don't have to scan many images in hi resolution.
Hope this helps,
Rogier

What's an I-MAC?![]()
It's hair removal cream. Spelt wrong. Missing an M.
Haven't you seen Steve Jobs demonstrating it? Remember "Boom! The hair is gone?"
