I need a long thin strap

I am looking for a long 48 inches or longer strap that is thin. Takes up the least amount of room in the bag but serves the function of being able to be bandelero style when in use. Any ideas?

wrap it around the camera and it still fits into the same area in the bag.

i use 2 66 inchers and they fit in my retro 5 with ease...straps don't have to be thin...

Do you know a leather worker? They love custom projects, and can select a leather as soft or tough as you like. I need to replace the strap on my old Leica lens/filter box, and modernize the strap for my Retina IIa (because that 60 year old leather will fail at some point!), and I have someone who has crafted a couple of great knife sheaths for me. I know he'll make the thing I need, and make it beautiful as well.

If leather is inappropriate, an outdoor/mountaineering (right, in Florida!)/camping store--or Home Depot--will have vinyl you can cut to length and add fasteners, rivets, etc.

I know what you mean, although myself like a little something to rest on the shoulder too. Personally, found the original Leica strap long enough to be slung bandolier style (my favoured style of carrying my M) around the chest, but perhaps yours is just not long enough to serve the purpose. If it was me, would be tempted by one of those round straps, which would slide around easily, when you wanted to bring the camera to the eye. The lance strap was one such strap I saw recently, and believe they will make it to your length at no additional charge too.

Lance straps work quite well at conserving space, as do A&A acam 103n (but quite a bit more expensive)

I use a 1 inch wide nylon web belt long so that I can go "bandelero" style. I folded over both ends and boxed and x'd them with my sewing machine. Then I attached key rings through the loops. It is simple and super strong. A person could make it with any width of nylon web belt they wanted.

Robert Hill Long made a good suggestion above. You might also try an upholstery shop. I am an upholstery guy myself and have thought about starting my own strap and bag company for a long time now.
