I need a small screw for a Voigtlander R3A.

The square panel around the eyepiece is held onto the camera with a small screw, and this morning that panel is rattling because the screw is lost.

Life I suppose, because I carry the camera everywhere with me, and although I check the eyepiece I never thought to check the screws.

Anyway, I cannot afford the time to send this camera away for a repair. If I can source a screw here I'll get a jeweler or similar with a tiny screwdriver to fit it.

So Kobayashi, CameraQuest, Robert White and anybody else. Can you send me a screw?

This week I can use the Leica but I need the Voigtlander for next weekend.
 
I can't help you of course Jon because I'm on the other side of the globe but for future reference I made sure a while ago that I won't get stuck with these sort of problems myself. I found an old Canonet at the local dump that was pretty trashed and bought it home to see how bad it was. I subesequently decided it was history but completely dismantled the camera and kept all the screws washers spacers etc ... put them in film canisters and returned the bones to the dump. That little collection of fasteners has got me out of trouble a few times when I've needed something similar to what you describe. Good luck! 🙂

clarence: Thank you. If I can get a screw I can go to a jewelers or similar and have them fit it.

Yesterday late at night I was chatting with a woman who's a hooker. She's a friend and we had a few drinks together before she went to work. I told her that I needed a screw; and she gave me a predictable answer.

Back on topic: even if you don't have a screw do you know the size so I can go to a jeweler or whatever and ask for it?

I'm also thinking of my optician who has small screws in stock and is the cousin of the photographer, but the photographer just left town suddenly with the optician's young female assistant so things are a bit tense.

I could write a TV show about all this.

Small screw needed, this week. Please.

They have small eye glasses repair kits here in convenience stores
(Long's and Safeway's). A little plastic box with miniature screw driver
and tons of little screws of different sizes. Maybe where you live, too ?

I have a little plastic bin chock full of screws and fasteners that I've salvaged from cameras thru the years. If you were close by you could rummage thru them and find one that works. 🙁

If Alentejo is near Coimbra [portgual], ClarementPhoto, there ought to be several places you can try -- until somebody sends you some screws -- because it's a university town...

Remember, too, that Leica has or used to have a Leica factory in Portugal... It is/was in
Vila Nova de Famalicão, near Porto, which is North of Coimbra...

Their screws might fit your Voigtlander...

In an emergency, you might protect the eyepiece from getting lost by wrapping a strong rubber band around the body and over the eyepiece...I would avoid Scotch tape because it might hurt the surface when you remove the tape...

If you can find a good camera repairer near Alentejo, he/she might have exactly what you need...

If you end up breaking down and needing to buy from an American source, may I suggest Microfasteners, in Lebanon NJ. 1-800-892-6917. They ahve a web site but I don't know the URL. Prices are good too -- small screws, like M2 x 4mm are $1.90 per 50.

I have used the European address as that's closer to where you are. Micro-Tools also has a U.S./North American site for those of you in the Western Hemisphere.
I order quite a few things from them and they are a very good source - quick shipping, fair prices, etc.

When I worked at Olympus the variety of screws used in a single camera model amazed me.

Why not visit a local camera repair shop? They should have something appropriate.

FYI go to a watch repair shop, they are always overloaded with little screws and stuff, my father used to repair watches in lieu of being a jeweler and they always had bins of screws for problems just like this, I bet you can find what you want at a place like that.
 
Thank you all for kind and helpful suggestions.

Plan A is to walk to the opticians shop and ask them. (But not to mention the brother and the shop worker.) They fix eyeglasses and I know they have small screws.

Plan B is to go to the artist jeweler.

Plan C is to mail Robert White asking for the screw and, if they send it, getting it fitted locally.
