I may come off as sounding pretty dumb, but I need answers to the following questions if someone would
please help me:

Can Leica M8 DNG images be processed on programs other than Leica Capture One software, such as Photoshop Elements? I have only shot images in JPEG and everyone seems to shoot in only raw.

What is the best way to learn how to use Leica One Software? I opened the program, but have no idea how to start using it.

Thank you,
Wayne R. Smith

Hi Wayne - I use Apple Aperture. I'd imagine a current version of Photoshop Elements will also work. I never even downloaded Leica One Software because I didn't want to learn yet another post production sw.

You can copy (or cut) and paste your DNG files directly from your SD card onto your computer and use any digital processing software compatible with DNG files - the latest version of PS Elements will work just fine.

I don't particularly care for the Capture One software. Personally I use PS CS4 to process and uncompress my DNG files.

The DNG is about as open as you get in RAW and most/all programs will open the files as stated but I and others have found that Capture One, who collaborated with Leica, produces a superior colour and noise conversion but others would no doubt disagree.

Open C1, Put the SD card in the computer.
Import to a directory (I use an external HDD).
The ones you like export as TIFF or JPEG and print them.

The white balance, etc, just takes a bit of playing with; but that is where it makes a lot of difference. I usually take pictures at night and the lighting can be problematic.

C1 seems like it makes sense to me, but I haven't used Photoshop, and don't care too much for iPhoto.

Just with take 1/2 day to get fairly proficient with it - and then decide.

Elements, CS, Lightroom, Aperture, Biddle, iPhoto and quite a number of others.

Capture one is quite straightforward, especially the later versions. You will see an explorer type of "tree" in the tab box, open the folder with your DNG-s and they will display in a thumbnail. Click on the thumbnail, adjust and click process. It will process the files according to your presets and open your editing program, like for instance Elements or Lightroom Note: only C1 version 4.8 will open Jpegs.
