This is only for Leica M8 users, not collectors of incredibly rare Nikon rangefinders or 911 Porsches

Hey, let's have a poll of who likes Simple Minds' 'Belfast Child'.
. Yes, it's great.
. No, I hate it.
. I've been too busy deciding if I'm a dentist or not, so I've never listened to it.
. I prefer my M's and 'crons and doing lens tests of my cat asleep.

You're not sure? Did your mom dress you in blue or pink?

I would suggest that you Americans men go together with your American women and split the cost of buying a M8.2. The increased tax due to the bad bank bailout will be $ 10,000 per US household. An M8.2 is cheap compared to that!

It's actually something closer to $2800 per person. But, once I pay the tax, I won't have anything left for the camera.

Well, they always pay, don't they? The Europeans, that is. They actually support their country by paying taxes. On this side of the pond, it's Homer Simpson's motto "Can't Somebody Else Do It?"

Exactly. Everyone hates taxes, but we all enjoy our water, electricity, paved roads, bridges, dams, fire departments, restaurant health inspectors, etc.

Water and electricty - you pay for that as you use it. It's not tax supported.
Paved roads and bridges - neglected for two generations.
Fire departments and health inspection - Ok, but most of your local taxes go to support schools, not the Health Dept or Fire Department. And most communities have terrible public schools. Again, paying for what you don't get.

Water acquisition/purification/delivery is highly subsidized by local governments. It costs much more than the average water bill.
Electricity is increasingly deregulated, which occasionally leads to disastrous circumstances, i.e. Calfornia shortages, and Enron.
Public schools are terrible? Yes, in some cases. Most? No. Does that mean we would all be better off if there were none? I don't think so.
The truth is that people, especially Americans, love to complain about taxes. But they take for granted all the things they support.
