I sent my M4 to be repainted...

These independent Japanese painters seem to have strange habits. Based on what I hear here, I personally wouldn't do business with any of them. Imagine that: not getting your M2 back for 2 years. It's like having your woman elope with another man to do God knows what. Completely unacceptable.

Sh*t! You must be loaded. Leica Ginza charges a fortune dude!

The quote for a CLA and to repair the camera is ¥68,750 to ¥79,250 including parts. I’d expect it to be in the upper price range but it’s what I expected to pay.

Yesterday, I picked up my M7 from Leica Ginza, adjusted vertical alignment of RF, ISO dial problem and cleaned the VF. Turnaround time was one week with an excellent work and service as usual.

Give me sometime to recover from last nights party and I‘ll post some pictures off the new baby. It’s still hiding in my bag incase the wife finds it ;)

You looked pretty happy with the new baby last night, Mike :)

Post some pics when you can, and in the meantime keep it well hidden from the wife :D

It's taken me a few day's to get my head around being back on dry land (and sober up...), as promised, some pic's off a Shintaro painted M2 :)

I have to admit I'm extremely happy with how this turned out.

All Shintaro told me was that its oven baked, not a two pack paint. I don't know much about paint so I can't say more than that but other people have told me the paint Shintaro uses is almost identical in colour to the paint used by Leica.

Wow, that's really pretty.

The 2009 and 2010 camera budgets were blown quite considerably. My New Years resolution for 2011 is looking like it's on shaky ground already!

mgd711, were there any dents or wear on the M2 that was repaired prior to painting?

Perhaps you can share a "before" photo as well. Thanks.

Edit: reason for my query is that am curious how these guys deal with dings, dents and wear. If after the work and painting, the blemishes are "erased"

The camera was owned by Shintaro, I bought it from him and then had him paint the camera. There was some dent's in the camera but in his price for the repaint all the dent's were fixed as well as the camera being CLA'd.

This is the only photo I have off the camera (Shintaro's photo) and I bought it based on this picture.

Or you can see it here on his Flickr...

You are a lucky man. I emailed all the 3 person who paints leica in this thread but there was no reply from anyone of the 3.

Looks very good.

No one in the US offer painting service?
I'm not painting an M-body, but if the price is not outrageous, I'd like have my Canon P painted black.
