An earlier post for an M4-P is now replaced with this. On reflection a really nice chrome M2 will make a great back up camera and all I need to do is to buy a Voigtlander 75mm finder for my lens. Thank you for all your comments on the M4-P post sorry to be a pain

Just do it.

Can't imagine anyone would be disappointed with an M2. Although I have to say that 'modern' people just can't make a photo with it...

I've just send you a private message as I'm willing to sell my Leica M2 as I'm not using it since I recently got a Leica MP.

It's official, I have ordered a mint M6 classic 0.72 in, you've guessed it, chrome just like the one I have but newer- £670+ 6 months warranty from a company based in North Yorkshire. A deep heart felt thank you to all who have participated in this journey with. I hate buying anything so I find it very stressful and as I have been retired a good many years through ill health I also need to spend my limited resources wisely.

There is also another extremely nice M6 on the buy and sell section here which I would strongly recommend to anyone looking for a near mint M6 Classic 0.72 in black

My decision to buy an M2 lingered for about a year, not being sure which number needed to follow the M. After looking at them all, again, and again, and again, and ALMOST thinking "3" - I came to my senses and started to stalk the finest of them all, the M2! And just having bagged one and tried it out in the field, I see my decision was sound. (as well as the decisions of my pen-pals or is that photo-pals? that have done the same, recently - there are 3 fewer M2s now looking for new homes that I know of)

What sold me was someone pointing out the M2 and the Canon P were competitors for the same buyer! Bingo! The 35/50/90 combo was always a winner for me. The M2: an upscale Canon P! I am very happy. But I'm also amazed at the ease of loading, which had always held me back, as I read of the fiddly process. Took less than a minute, first time! Single-handed.

Now I have to decide which 1 of my 2 Canon Ps to sell, as I can't have this many cameras... hmmm.....

All's well that ends well. In the late 1960s I decided that I wanted an M2, and early this year I got one. I must confess, though, that I sometimes miss the M3 I had for seventeen years until 2002.

I will be buying an M2 one day. Could be in 6 months, could be in 6 years.

This could describe me. I have a Canon P I haven't even used yet as I'm on the road a lot. Once I play with the P a bit, I may find the desire for an M2 or MP (depending on future income) increase or decrease.

Who am I kidding. I'll get an M of some form eventually...

Well, I'm glad your agonizing is over. I was one of the proponents of the M4-2, but in the end you did get something like an M4, but with a meter.

I didn't imagine you'd like silver chrome cameras that much. I too... but cannot help falling for black chrome bodies. :)

For me, the big hangup with buying which Leica was that I love the look and feel of the M3, the rewind crank of the M4, and the finder of the M2.

I ended up with my M2 due to a bargain situation. I wasn't even actively shopping for one. I am glad I got the M2. I'm only posting to relay my own worries about the M2:

I was worried that I would hate loading it and rewinding it. Most likely due to using Zorki-4 cameras and lots of other junky cameras from the 1950s.

However, I can say that loading and rewinding are a lot easier than I had anticipated. It does take longer than my Bessa R2A camera, but it's not a nightmare with broken film like my Zorki cameras.

If you are worried about rewinding and loading an M3 or M2, I'm here to say that it's no big deal.

That is all...

I was in the M4-2 boat at one point, but am glad it didn't end up happening.

I've used my Canon P and my M2 since getting the latter. They're both keepers.

Congrats on the M6 purchase.

Al, the M2 is closest thing to a Canon P and is even more quiet. I do like the M2's rounded body more, and being a contrarian, I like the quiet zen moments I spend loading the M2 from the bottom (which had scared me away from Leicas in the past).

I like both cameras, and maybe it's still the newer experience of using the Leica, but I like the experience of using it more than I do the Canon. That's half the fun. Someone expressed it better elsewhere, (paraphrasing) - using a Leica is like driving a sports car with manual transmission; using a Canon P (or insert another popular camera of your choice here) is like driving a Honda. Each is good for different things. And yes, I do drive a Honda.

Steve, I couldn't agree more! But I really don't need the TWO Canon P's that I somehow ended up with, so one has to go. It should be USED, not admired on a shelf.
